A message from the captain dpr
« on: December 16, 2013, 08:37:21 am »
This was in my inbox when I checked, don't think it was meant for me because I only speak English, does anyone know what it says?

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Dread Pirate Roberts.

No, he was actually number 2, but it will be interesting to follow.

Most of the new developments have to focus on safe usability. Silk Road is a hidden part of the Internet anymore, which few have access to after they carried out their own investigations.
We've looked at a few recent studies that show that more than half of Americans know what Bitcoin is, and it is gradually becoming difficult to imagine that you have not heard of Silk Road if you know of Bitcoin .
So we are certainly known by a significant percentage of the American population , and therefore we also need to make sure that no one can get to make inappropriate errors that may end up bringing them in danger.
Advanced users already know well how to protect themselves, so it is better to wait to add features to them and instead focus on helping the newer users who are struggling to understand the system and prevent them from bringing itself at risk.

I can not predict how successful other competitors will be in this environment.
I think that any of them have already made some stupid mistakes , and it is clear that it is harmful to all of us when someone is getting away with hacking a page, or when someone ends up defraud users.
I am currently working with Backopy to share information about how best to secure markets , and I consider this a very favorable partnership.
If there are other markets that are interested in taking part in this partnership to be advised on how they ensure themselves , they have to prove themselves in one way or another . I have not had time to think through this scenario , and I 'll have to talk it through with Backopy before it in any way enforceable.

We have already realized that Silk Road has a limited lifespan.
I am by no means perfect , and it is our team either, but at this time we are the best on the " dark web " for the job.
At present, we do not believe that we will continue to the point where we end up being arrested. Instead , we expect that we will announce the closure in advance when it comes to that. This will also be possible to give people a reasonable period of time to pull 's Bitcoins out before we destroy the entire infrastructure .
To remain online until we all get arrested is not something I want to sit and wait , and it will also put users at risk - which is something that I will in no way allow. User safety is paramount and I will do everything in my power to protect them. Even though it may possibly cost me my freedom.
This is an attitude that is common to the whole team, and we can only hope that we can remain online for a minimum of 12 months and provide users with 2 weeks notice before we close down , thus ensuring that everyone can draw their Bitcoins out in due time.

Over the last few weeks we have already received hundreds of thousands in commission, the majority of which has been given to the nominated charities which have been previously discussed in the original plan .
Moderators and a few freelance technicians receive payment for their services , but it makes most of us do not .
Ross made the mistake that he kept a significant share of the money, and although he may have had good intentions, this is often perceived as greed.
However, we have no desire for financial gain.
We want to make sure that the Silk Road at the very least leave a positive mark on the world , and if I'm unlucky shown should happen to be caught , I can at least say that I am proud of what I've done . That's my motivation.

There was a small bug in my messaging script yesterday which caused this message to be sent out to several random user ID's. There is nothing particularly sensitive in it and nothing to worry about.

Although ya did kinda just incriminate Ross there, otherwise I can see how none of it was confidential. But fairplay on your ethos, your intentions shine through well in it.

This was a good read. It does show the intentions of our site administrator. I also think that corresponding with Backopy is an excellent idea, we need more reliable markets to bare the brunt of the user load. I am not a super tech guy or anything, i just believe that if there were at least five or more reliable trustworthy site, then we could assume that the traffic would be dispersed better. I know you guys have a tough job, and i wish that we newbs could find a way to contribute. I have looked into Tor nodes, relays, but have not really figured out how to help, except by using the forums to reach others and also review products and vendors top help grow the stable community. I hope that we can continue on like this forever until we figure out a way for all people to be able to buy, and or sell our unique products. Happy Holidays

Good things need some time.
That's why I'm confident that there won't be a fall of Silk Road v2.

Sail on DPR!

Quite brilliant misinformation tactic actually. The first line obviously refers to Ross which can be taken one of two ways:

1. Ross was the second DPR, not the original one.
2. Ross was his second in command, meaning the title never passed.

This isn't the first time DPR has spoken in Danish either. He had a quote on his signature before the market opened in Danish that translated into something about licking honey and bees.

And then..."Moderators and a few freelance technicians receive payment for their services". I'm still waiting on payment, mate.

Neither of the two statements are accurate.
None of this is brilliant.

It should be "Quite a brilliant misinformation tactic actually."

I hope to reach my 50 post limit soon, so that I can contribute in a more adult way.

But dudes, what's with all the hate over here.

What did you do for .onion?  What did you do for the cryptocurrencies?

The best sailors are the ones on shore :)

Some people over here think that running a site as big as SR 2.0 is the same then configuring an Ubuntu Lamp Server with OScommerce.  It's NOT, this is Ebay size on the darknet and the sole defense is the one you have built or are able to use against whatever form of attack,  and there are many being scriptkiddie or sophisticated or zeroday.

Taking such a responsibility, even managing the whole is a true nightmare sometimes as it requires quite a skillset.

I'm not crawling into somebodies ass, I just have about 15+ years experience in this shit.

Sail on DPR, don't feed the trolls :) I will provide some food until I have reached my 50 post limit ;-)

Peace
