Silk Road Philippines Donation Fund Address: 1Ni9m1ffciS8r4PpCoix4EmdXdhkE2WsRe

I am sure by now you are all aware of the recent tragedy in the Philippines which has lead to millions suddenly losing their homes and security, but worst of all is the thousands who have lost their lives in it and the family around them who must now rebuild their lives even after such a great loss.

Here at Silk Road we are all very fortunate, we have enough money to feed ourselves, house ourselves and stay comfortable, although even in times of poverty in the western world this does not compare to the situation which has now devastated everybody in the Philippines after the storm. I am hoping as a collective group, Silk Road can help raise money for those in need and so I have decided to setup a donation fund for those in need in the Philippines.

All money in the above address will not be touched by any of Silk Road staff for their own purpose and 100% of the proceeds will go towards those who need it most. To ensure this I have made the bitcoin address one central pot which we will use to collect donations and thanks to the way the blockchain works, everyone will be able to see that I have transferred the money to the right places. Exactly where it will go and how I get it to them for now will remain a secret but it will be revealed nearer the time to ensure the receiving organization does not reject it simply because it is tied to us and I hope even if they are made aware that they will process it for us recognizing that it has a greater cause rather than send it back.

If you would like to donate directly to the Red Cross efforts in the Philippines using traditional payment types , you can also use the link below:
https://www.redcross.org/donate/index.jsp?donateStep=2&itemId=prod4650031

Before sending bitcoins, I would recommend you also properly mix them or use Blockchain.info's shared send feature so the above address does not become an intelligence gathering pot for law enforcement.

I personally will be donating and hiding my own contributions amongst your own for my own protection and I hope we can all spare even just a few cents for our brothers and sisters abroad in their hour of need.

I noticed you mentioned blockchain's shared send capability but have you looked into block chain's new tool called shared coin? Would you happen to know the difference?

Can someone explain if setting up a blockchain account is all we need to do to stealthify our donations, or do we need to tumble also?  What is the preferred method of tumbling? Is one method safer than the other?

Great idea, but I don't think it should be about winning hearts and minds rather helping those in need.

Nice one DPR, good on you.

Just out of interest, do you have any long-term strategy in mind for Silk Road's contribution to good causes?

I remember you mentioning this on Twitter and I was intrigued. Do you have, for example, an idea of a given percentage of SR commission that should go to charities, and how you will decide which charities shall receive money (for example, a community vote on the forums)? And also, do you have any ideas about how we could encourage the community to donate? I was thinking something like reduced fees for vendors for contribute a given amount per month.

Anyway, this was certainly a nice thing to see on the forums tonight. I have a small amount of coins that have been appreciating recently so I'll have to send them off.

I just sincerely hope the charities accept the money without any hassle.

Now let's just hope the best for those poor souls who have been caught up in this tragedy.

Exactly. It is certainly right that we take the moral high ground with Silk Road, because let's face it, our cause is a noble one. But often, and especially with issues like this, there is always the temptation for us to turn it into a circlejerk ego-trip, which we should try to resist as much as possible. But hey, we're only human.

That said though, I've always been resistant to the notion that you can give to charity 'for the wrong reasons'. I mean hey, if the money helps the people who need it, who cares about the false pretenses of the people who gave it?

I'm sure many of us wish to donate and do so to help the victims of the typhoon. And there are several ways to contribute, but by donating here we are also making a statement about who we are here on silkroad. And by getting donations trough a community the effect of one donation might influence other people to donate (more).

So donating is a good thing, donate and say that you have donated is better because that might inspire others to do the same.

The heart-wrenching images of the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Haiyan make us immediately want to help out in every way we can.

Hundreds of people have been buried in mass graves, and the death toll is reportedly at  3,631 people, though estimates of the true death toll say it could be higher.

The money we can make from our donations can help change lives.
I am personally donating.

Thanks to you DPR you have done a great deed to help my beautiful country that has been decimated by this storm and looks like a tsunami has had it's way with our islands.

We will rebuild but it will take us some time and millions of lives have been turned upside down and thousands have died and will die in weeks to come through lack of medicines and food and shelter.

We have donated thousands already and continue to work tirelessly to feed and house those who are without clothing food and shelter.

This hopefully is the preliminary account that leads to a Silk Road charity fund that permanently gives funds perhaps through a voting system for different charities. A suggestion we have is also a Silk Road Charity Of The Week page.

It was worth selling our vendor account to be able to give more money to help others.

If you are donating by methods other than crypto currencies you will likely find your donations are tax deductible as well and if this is the case please share as much as you can as you can be sure your taxes are going to genuinely helping people less fortunate instead of enforcing the status quo of the statist paradigm.

This is why Silk Road is so special to so many people and something the so called ruling classes can never understand about this community, that humanity doesn't need them to tell us how to think and help each other and all we need is the love for one another instead of fear of slavery through the systemic use of force and violence. People will always willingly give more than is asked of them if they feel it is a just cause which will always dwarf what any statists can give which even if they do give something it has to be taken from someone else by force instead of willingly sequestered.

The Philippines and her people are with you DPR and thank you Silk Road community for all your help we will encourage people in our local media to take note that Silk Road has rallied to help ease our suffering. :)

Great to see the community giving to good causes. I think a nice idea would be to have a "Cause of the Month" sticky. Every month DPR and the other admins/mods choose a cause to donate to and sticky a thread with a deposit address for donations.

Not sure how many people have my purchasing habits, but I'm always left with some extra BTC, but not enough to buy any more goodies. Just think if a few hundred, or even a few thousand of us all donated that little extra we had left over we could really do some good.

Very cool. What a great guy this new DPR is, and not too outspoken which I like the most.

I'd love to donate to this and I'm very happy some of the money I'm making here can go to a good cause.

I really like the idea of charitable bitcoin.

It's good to spread some positivity, and on a side note it kind of helps kill the idea that we're all drug fiending/dealing hacker types :)

I sent 3.03 BTC not too long ago which means the current amount sent is approximately $3000.

This is a great thing to do DPR, it's not just about winning Hearts and minds, but most of all its about helping out our fellow man. Maybe people will realize that us people on SR are not "evil people" like tyrannical federal government controlled main stream media makes us all out to be.

6.07578475 is the total collected from our efforts so far?

Personally I gave a nominal figure equal to the postal charges for delivery on one item, very small, embarrassingly so. After the huge run up in coin my conscious is constantly telling me to add more, but I'm afraid the lure of riches in the future is holding my additional donations in my wallet. Greed or fear of losing out on the potential life styles of the rich and famous.  I want a rehab on the coast with optional healthy drugs available that still would allow me to have my cake and eat it too.

Can we claim the post-donation value of the coins we donate or should we only claim the value at the date of donation?  Like anybody claims this as a deduction on their taxes.

So it goes,

This is almost equal to the total of my remaining fractional coin. Coincidence or what?  R spoke what I thought, but could not say, since it would mean I should give much more than I did. Let's face it, those who should read this will eschew this thread to begin with. We need a sneak attack on the consciousness of the oblivious masses.

By the way, I'm not an alcoholic and, God willing, will avoid such a condition for my remaining days.

That should have been $30,000 given our resources.
$3000 from the great SR..? How embarrassing..!

I'm not from the Philipines, never been there, don't know anyone there...
I'm sending all my spare change right now.

Fuck it man - I'll buy drugs tomorrow.
These people need some drinking water.

It's so damn easy - just hit the send button - it won't kill you..!

I'd love if the scammer by the name of Coke Cartel donated the €1500 he stole from me to the cause and it would make me feel better about the loss! You hear me Coke CArtel? Sent the 3 bitcoins you stole from me to this charity to make yourself pass as a half decent human being!
