The Smoking Room
« on: October 24, 2013, 09:41:54 pm »
Come on in, relax, and help yourself to a cigar and a glass of something strong.

This is The Smoking Room.

This thread is for anybody. But in particular, it is for gentlemen who wish to participate in pompous discourse, witty banter and hearty laughter.

There are a few rules of course (cue the groans... but there always are):

1. It's OK to get drunk, but please try to remain coherent

2. You don't have to be of a British disposition, but it helps

3. If it's sunny, we sit in Alfred's idyllic garden

4. If you're visiting for the first time, bring a bottle of something and a box of cigars to help us make sure there's always something for all

That's all, gentlemen. Enjoy the conversation!

I am enthralled to see this thread start.  I look forward to many gentlemanly conversations about cigars, brandy, and the finer things in life.  :)

Pertaining to number 3 above; all are welcome in my garden.  If you plan on getting knackered then be sure to bring a tent or at least a sleeping bag.  Place your rubbish in the wheelie bin behind the shed.

Oh and stay away from the hilltop, that is off limits to drunkards.  ;)

Gentlemen, this little place is just charming. Wicked looks unceremoniously nonchalant, sprawled across the Chesterfield and Alfred, that cravat really brings out the colour of your eyes. Anyhoo, it's time to leave you cads to your banter and un cork this cheeky Claret over at the Ladies thread. Enjoy boys ;)

Why thank you dear, and how lovely of you to notice.  I do love this cravat.

Almost as much as I enjoy this glass of Johnnie Walker Blue I am enjoying at the moment.  :)

Any advice on what kind of cigar I should select right now?  I think I will go for the Romeo Y Julieta cedros de luxe no 3.  It has been in my humidor for a while now and it has aged quite nicely.

I'm a busy man.

But I hope, when the dust of my current ventures settle, that I'll be able to join you fine gentlemen on occasion for a tonic water, or, if I'm feeling particularly risque, a tall glass of absinthe.

And we would welcome your presence Master V.  I am sure you would be quite the fascinating party guest after a glass or two of absinthe.

*wanders in and donates an absinthe fountain to the room

For all occasions, not just for V's visits. Now, Vieux Pontarlier or Doubs Mystique...?

For the moment however, a glass of oak-aged calvados would go down nicely. Cigar-wise I tend to Henri Winterman's for a general smoke but I feel I should treat myself to something a little better in here. Those Romeo Y Julietas do smell very tempting.

Good day, gentlepersons :)

An absinthe fountain?

Oh my! I can only handle my absinthe in small sips, and I fear the presence of such fountain will compel me to over-indulge!

Oh, a fountain merely drips chilled water through the spoons, sir, which may or may not hold sugar depending on the absinthe in the glasses, allowing one to appreciate the louche as it forms. Once the glass is filled one may sip at one's leisure :)

Here are some examples: (clearnet) http://www.absinthe.de/zubehoer/absinthe-fontainen.

The last one I owned was that in the middle of the picture and I have just reminded myself to purchase a new one.

I have not indulged in much Absinthe in my life so I believe I was picturing the same thing as Master WickedWords, which was something similar to a champagne or punch fountain you see at homecomings and whatnot.

I am very glad such a device does not exist, also for the same reasons as WickedWords, I would most assuredly over-indulge!

Did any of you get to try the "Dos Hemanos" cigars from Djarum while they were available on SR?  I remember in the description that it was a blend of java and brazilian tobaccos.  Those Indonesians sure do love their tobacco!

All I have for cigars is some Garcia y Vega's that I use to roll blunts with.  It's been a while since I have had a good cigar.
2 detuned square waves + 1 low tuned sine wave and lets get this ting started, yeah??

No I did not try or even see those cigars but they sound delightful.  I have had Indonesian cigars before and they have always been spectacular.  I am wishing I had one right now in fact!

Now that is a quality smoke sir.  I have never actually tried one myself but a few of my military mates never stop raving about them.  What about them do you find particularly enjoyable Master V?

Here is hoping that you will be enjoying one sometime in the next few weeks sir.  :)

Once a year, I treat myself to a Gurkha His Majesty's Reserve.

This is generally on either my Birthday, or at Thanksgiving. Never both.

V

Now that is a quality smoke sir.  I have never actually tried one myself but a few of my military mates never stop raving about them.  What about them do you find particularly enjoyable Master V?

Here is hoping that you will be enjoying one sometime in the next few weeks sir.  :)

His Majesty's Reserve has many qualities I enjoy.

Perhaps the bit I like the most though, is the sweet, nutty taste.

V

I doubt I'll ever have the pleasure of trying His Majesty's Reserve... but seeing as you have the pleasure once a year, I'm sure that asking to spot a fiver isn't out of the question?

Last night I made myself a whiskey sour because I have not had one in quite a few years.  I immediately regretted it because I had to make myself another immediately after.  :)

A hot toddy and a nap is in order per Miss Bird's suggestion!

There, you should be quite comfortable now, enjoy your nap.

Why thank you Miss Bird.  That was a lovely nap I do feel much better now.

And since I am feeling better; who is up for a round?

Just wanted to retrieve this thread from the horrors of the 4th page of Offtopic.  :-\

Also, last night I was at the shop and decided to treat myself to a Padron 1964 Aniversario Diplomatico accompanied with a glass of Johnnie Walker Blue that I still have about.  It was divine.

I was just searching for it so I could do the very same, Alfred!

Great minds etc. etc.

Celebratory drinks all round in light of tomorrow's events?

I need to get me some good cigars so I can come in here too.

Cigars are awesome after a good bowl. Also, if you can handle a Hookah, its wonderful.

I had some Cranberry flavored tobacco and it was so good. Stuff will get you high and its legal as hell.

Great minds indeed Master WickedWords!

Yes, I believe this wonderful news calls for much celebration.  Who will bring the absinthe fountain?  ;)

I want to try some Absinthe but I'd only try what you gentlemen supply (with permission of Mrs. Anonie of course).

Not sure how I will celebrate, hopefully with a line one some more of Xin's Caviar. :)

For a novice sipper I would recommend a Duplais Verte as an introduction.
