Title: vendor got hacked
Post by: USdirectforyou on February 06, 2012, 01:45 pm
I started a vendors account two days ago and I already got hack and taken for $20 and than my password changed. How do we prevent this for happening? this is nuts!

You set a better password? Hacking user accounts on SR isn't an easy thing to do, and the best option is always to guess/learn someone's password and PIN.

30 character random alphanumeric passwords for both of them, that will stop you being "hacked".
Simple security steps should be taken, it is worrying if you are a vendor and do not have that in hand.

Sounds like the computer you're accessing SR from is compromised.

I would recommend using linux from a memory stick.  I believe Warweed sells it already setup on a memory stick for about 30 bucks.   As for your passwords you really only need a four word phrase that you won't forget.  It would take decades to break a four word password phrase.

You should use software like LastPass or 1Password to generate a strong password and PIN. At least 32 characters long, mixing upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters. Keep that shit in an encrypted text file that only you have access to (you're using PGP, right?). Problem solved.
