Warweed and I came up with this idea together in SILC. He may also make a listing for it and if he does, we will be combining totals.
Here is how it works!
You buy X .50btc(+SR comission) entries into this lottery.
The lottery pool grows every time there is an entry. After all the entries come in the drawing will be on 2/20 for the total pooled btc - 5% commission.

Yes, but this is better for two reasons. You're odds are astronomically better of winning on SR than you are on powerball. And what would you do with the money you win from a lottery? You'd buy drugs, this way the money is already in BTC form for your convenience!

This really seems like a scam. I'm new here, so I don't know if you have a good reputation, but I would be really hesitant to participate unless there is a lot more specific info about the drawing posted.

How would people know that the winner wasn't a friend or alternate account of yours?
I'm not eligable to win this as I am already taking a comission. However, to address the friend thing, you will just have to trust that I'm not trying to scam but just have a little fun with you guys. If you aren't comfortable with that answer than no pressure to buy :)

The drawing will be at 8pm EST on the 20th.
I will put one paper with your name on it for each ticket you buy in the hat, then I'll draw from the hat. That or I'll come up with a way to do this same thing digitally with one of those name generator javascripts.
No scams here fellas, I have good rep, I'm ranked 74/303 on SR. Just looking to have some fun. If this is popular in the future we will have multiple drawings with additional prizes, etc.

You know what? I think I'm in. It's worth such a small amount just to find out if this is legit or not. And if I lose or get scammed, I can regain what I lost by not drinking a large coke next time I go to the movies. I think I'll survive the sacrifice.

Couple of suggestions.
1. The money should all go into escrow.
2. The draw should be done by someone neutral. nomad bloodbath is on here. Maybe he should do the draw.

To prove that there was no cheating you could make a video.
Show all the entry numbers written on paper and placed into the hat.
Shake the hat, place it on the ground, look away and grab a random piece of paper
Show the entry number to the camera.

You definitely need some sort of other way to do this, either a forum ADMIN or a VIDEO etc, too easy just to pick one of your own accounts youve entered, or a friends if you get the drift. Never be too carefull, ive entered anyway! Good Luck, hope the pool increases!

i hate how people are questioning notamused about the lottery.
yes of course there are flaws in the system, don't play then.
this is not a scam to get your bitcoins.
if it were it would not be .50 a ticket and it would not be run by someone with an excellent seller rating.
repeat, there are flaws but what the hell do you expect, powerball rules and fraud detection.

Everyone who is standing up for me or the lottery I appreciate it. For those of you who are wary, I totally respect and understand where you are coming from.
I am going to be as honest and transparent with this as I possibly can. A video sounds like an excellent idea.

This is a fun little thing... I mean, hell, WTF are you going to do with half a bitcoin anyhow? Even if this was a scam to get everyone's spare change, it's not hurting anything, and it's fun!

quite a few, but not more than half of them.

I never bothered to gamble the times I went to Vegas with friends, but the odds seem much better here and I happen to have some BTC change leftover, so I'm in :)

I like the idea, I am sure many people have small amounts of BTC leftover.. I suggest that this is twinned to a major real life lottery draw. For example twin it to the euromillions draw and give all entrants a number 1-49, first number drawn out on the specified date wins the BTC. This way there is no way to fix the draw.

Don't think so but couldn't it be based on something like the last two digits (or 3 for up to 1000 players) of something completely random?
E.g number of shares traded. This is completely googleable. eg google tesco share price and today the number traded is 21,581,988 so the winner would be number 88. If in got popular, you would have to use 3 numbers and it could roll over to the next trading day if noone had the number. And remember to pick a big company with loads of shares traded and provide a link beforehand! This means people can bet on their lucky numbers.
Don't think there's anyway that anyone could fix this. Just tell people what company it will be beforehand so they can check for themselves!
