Title: imdb Top 250
Post by: sicklikesaddam on January 14, 2012, 03:28 pm
Hi

Seeing if anybody might be interested in a portable 500GB hard drive pre-loaded with the current imdb top 250 plus extras. Obviously most people can get them themselves but i know people irl that dont care for downloading and have purchased from me to save time. I would only ask a small fee, (£20) on top of whatever the hard drive and postage costs and i would include all receipts form the hard drive so it would still be in warranty if anything ever happened.

What do you guys think?

I think these kind of products are good ideas.

Anyone else like the sound of this? I have got the full imdb top 250 all at reasonable size avi and mkv files. (VLC plays them perfectly.) If people made requests i also have most of the big shows from the last 5 years or soin full so these could be added on request.

I would like to know if this is viable before i pay for a sellers account.

Thanks  :)

sounds like a waste of time imo, but then again vendors like warweed have quite a lot of "digital" goods for sale, I'd say it's not really much point if you factor in vendor acct costs + fees + costs of HD..

Um, I would buy the hard-drive not your software depending on the price.

yeah i figured i would probably need to sell 6 or so before i am back level after paying for a sellers account but i am considering selling some other more usual items in a few months when the supply is ready. It really depends on how many people would have £100 to spend on movies and TV programmes in one go. The drives are really nicely organised so if you look at the folder in file view all the covers are there so its like browsing a video store.

Um, I would buy the hard-drive not your software depending on the price.

not really sure why you would do this, wouldn't you just go to a shop? If i'm missing something let me know  ;)

I have already assumed that anyone who has the technical know-how to get tor running, set up an account with silk road, buy bitcoins, transfer them to here and then use PGP to encrypt their address is pretty capable of working out how to download a movie from the internet.  ::)

Like i said, some people have bandwidth restrictions, slow internet speeds or simply dont care for doing it themselves. For these guys getting the 250 top rated films of all time in one go on a hard drive must be tempting. If this is something you might like let me know.

Thanks to the guys that have PMd me but unless there is a little more interest i doubt i would be up for creating a sellers account just yet.

If I may ask, how much space do all 250 movies take up?

I guess a 500GB hard drive is one option (although hard drive prices have skyrocketed recently). Then there are blank BD-Rs that hold 23.28GB each, and 22 of those could hold 500GB. I've seen a 50-pack of BD-R for $40 which comes out to $0.80/disc. 22 of them would cost $17.60. (Although now it's $42 so $0.84/disc, and 22 would be $18.48).

You could ship less discs if they were BD-R DL, but those are like $7.80/disc.

The films average out at about 1gig each i suppose. Some are smaller, (but still decent quality mkv files), some are bigass avi files. I was thinking 500 gig drive which is by far the easiest way. A portable one so no power needed just powered through USB. Everyone can use it and far more convenient than 22 discs, plus burning all those discs sounds like something that might make me want to top myself.  ;)

All the file folders include cover photos as their icons so looking at the files is like looking through a video store.

I can fill the rest of the space with other films if wanted. Obviously any requests will be happily considered.

One recommendation would be to put the full TV series The Wire on there. It's literally the best thing ever.
