So, who is this guy? I got this long weird message that seemed like an amateur mass mailing from aol in the 90s. I will post it but I was just curious who else got it/knows whats up.

Hahaha, a trusted seller worked together with another guy to write a script that would automatically message new members with that post. It's to protect new buyers from finalizing early for new/scamming sellers. It's nothing to be afraid of. =P

Sounds like a very helpful script writer has took it upon his self to to give the newb customers of silk road a heads up on the scamming going on here responsible solely by vendors creating unauthorized guidelines to finalize early or void their agreement with Silk Road when becoming a new vendor.
I personally hope this helps out some of the newer additions to the community and also let's the vendors at the same time know that asking for early finalizations are in fact against Silk Road guidelines

Yeah there is nothing to be worried about thats from a vetted member of the community and it is sage advice. Even though SR affords a bit of safety as compared to f2f you still need to be careful, following his advice and sticking with choice vendors is a wise move.

If whoever runs the bot reads this could you run it through a spell check? I noticed a few spelling errors.
My guess is that it's Warweed because he made a bot for selling digital goods so why not repurpose it to help newcomers? It's very helpful and hopefully none of the preferred (not Preffered) vendors pull a SYG or CFMF especially now that they've been endorsed by the welcome message.
Should also include suggesting registering and lurking on the community forum. Only a fraction of the users on Silk Road have forum accounts.

Nope no vendors are being charged and the bot was started at the 107K <UID> range it is designed to send 1 pm to each user there have been a few glitches in the message itself such as the "Dear Im the latests" lol
but has been corrected it will run to the current new user <UID> then as some of you may or may not know if the UID does not exist yet on SR it shows a blank profile thats says it has been here for 44 years :P so it just sits there refreshing every 10 seconds (once it catches up to the latest member) and when the new profile arrive it pm's them :)
There is a log kept of each uid / username and in the future once caught up to the latest members will be join date as im interested statistics none of the info i gather is not already publicly available and does not leave me unless permission from SR is obtained
but the bot pretty much is just like me changing the send mail links uid from 13555 to 13556 13557 ect
running it through tor is a bitch :) but it's keeping that tor node busy :) and only one active connection to sr as i would hate to lag sr :)

Hello, i had been years looking for a place like this and i found it now. I travel for some years in asia and middle east. I hit the 40 and my life now is somewhat mainstream. My drill now is work, home, work, home. This site is a safer way to "salt" and put "spices" my sometimes monotonous existance. We got families and work and some of us can not go in the streets looking for this and that. Anyway thanks. And i hope with the time i can be a honest member in the SR comunity.

Im in the works of talking about development of a *subscription* based bot for news letters and updates and such were a user would PM a certain Username with the subject Register Me or Cancel Registration
which would allow to do targeted advertising and new releases about certain topics for instance the SYG scandle

I was just about to PM you to ask you to write me a "newsletter bot". The #1 question I'm asked is "When will you have X available, and can you PM me when you have it?" and I don't have the time to make lists to individually PM people.
If I had a bot then I could stick people on specific lists so they can be alerted when I have something new in stock. This would be helpful to many vendors provided Silk Road allowed it. I would hate to see a spammer advertise their own wares indiscriminately on Silk Road using a bot.

exactly why i am hesitant having any code released on how to do it
also i have a dedicated Linux machine doing this have not gotten it to work with windows and cygwin yet

Yeah no problem i actually caught it fairly quickly and changed it you must have been among the bunch who got it
and no worries no toes stepped on :) always open to ideas
