Hi Aghe123,

Some of the more grizzled SR Veterans and I* were taking a peek at this around a month ago ; it's one of the first darknet sites I've ever been on and hasn't been updated since then. The prices aren't particularly good for stolen merchandise in any case(!) There's no reason they couldn't offer their products directly on SR - we toyed with the idea of having a whip round each putting in fifty dollars to buy one laptop to see if they were trustworthy but decided against it.

V.

*I do not count myself amongst them!

No experience with the mac store but  I know for a fact that stolen mac merchandise, as of last year, was easily registerable with no repurcusions following

I saw it on the hidden wiki and thought it was to good to be true. Contacted the own of the site and asked if he would deal on silk road or black market reloaded and he didn't get back to me right away.

Asked again and he said he'd "Look into it"

In other words if they don't deal within escrow it's likely a scam although I cannot prove it as I've never ordered from them.

Personally speaking, I always think that dealing in stolen merchandise is a bad idea. That goes double when:

1) The goods are serialized; and

2) The goods require updates (software) from the manufacturer.

Depending on how these were acquired (i.e. from individuals or from say, a truckload shipment theft) the serial numbers of these machines are likely to be listed as stolen.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to purchase one.

Good point Guru, thanks!

I suppose the demand for stolen prices is driven by the huge prices for Macbooks. I only know a little about IT but when I was replacing the hard drive on my friend's Macbook last year I got to take a look at the bare bones of the device and I'm still not sure what exactly it is that people are getting for their money when there are x86 laptops with similar specs selling for less half the price?

I suppose the advantage of Apple's insistence on having a monopoly on the OS and applications are that they can be better attuned to work with their own hardware but I still fail to see what I'm getting for my money - I have been running Ubuntu on one laptop and had access to a couple of Macbooks for the past five years now and my only observation is that recording videos on Macbooks is slightly easier!

Is there something I'm missing? Please enlighten me and others who don't know!

Cheese is cool. So is Desktop Recorder, especially if you're recording demos or tutorials or something like that.

Guru

Thanks for the tips guys - Cheese never really got along with my camera but I found that WxCam works after a fashion. In any case even if you don't have exactly the right driver for your flavour of Linux if you're that cut up about it, it would still be cheaper to get a regular laptop and buy a video camera as far as I can see! :-)
