Title: Crash course in computer data safety
Post by: oldschoolau on June 22, 2012, 06:01 pm
As i have just begun vending i have spent the night improving my security protocols. Working on the assumption that we will all get caught eventually these are the changes i have made. Will some of the old hacks in here review and offer any improvements to what i have implemented.

Disk digger scans for any deleted files not removed correctly. For me i found some porn which is illegal in my country...woof... And also what my missus is into when she is home alone.

Eraser is the program i have chosen to banish those pics and vids for good.

As i have no desire to re-boot every time i log onto SR i have gone with truecrypt, on USB, using both the hidden volume with a new unique pass phrase and also used the visible volume with a fairly easy password to crack in the hope police will think "job well done, time to lite a fire and wank over it"

Once i have my PC cleaned up with nothing illegal or incriminating I have installed Virtual Box to do my clean net browsing on.
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
What i would like to know is, when i leave my virtual windows will any trace remain on my HDD. I assume there will be data on the RAM which will disappear with a reboot.

Another interesting read on windows 7 deleted file recovery.

If anything i am doing is complete horse shit, let me know. Any advice on superior free programs, love to hear it. I need my computer to be sparkling clean.

My other question is : with an ink jet printer is it possible to match the printer the the labels i will be using?

Hi OldschoolAU,

If you're running Windows you can use Truecrypt to encrypt your entire hard disk too to make recovery of deleted files near impossible. Alternatively you could use a "Live CD" like TAILS to boot from - just bear in mind you'll need to enable Truecrypt each time you start up and only things you save to your USB stick will remain.

All the best,

V.
