i just visited piratebay on my normal browser and this is what it says:
The page you're looking for has been blocked.
We're complying with a court order that means access to this website has
to be blocked to protect against copyright infringement.

We are living in some scary times. I just hope the majority wake up to it soon.
-
hmm, I still have access to it.. What ISP are you using?
Have you tried accessing it through a proxy or on tor, then using a proxy in your torrent program?

Nope, i still have access to it without the use of tor or proxy, i'm on BT. Weird :-/

Oh thank god, we still have access here in the states! Whew, I was worried! :o
What's so wrong with the notion of try it before you buy it? Under no normal circumstances would I ever purchase anything I pirate, but sure as hell once I try the product and realize I enjoy it, well then I go out and buy it simple as that. I know that sounds so cliched, but that's how I honestly feel about it. So as far as I understand it, piracy earns more money than not. ???

Blocked in the Netherlands too :(

A court order has required ISP's to block it. BT has asked for more time to comply but I think the other major ISP's have already done so. Not a problem for those of us who use the Tor browser!

Thanks for the help but I have a Demonoid account which provides me with more than enough torrents for my likings :P
Still sad to see it blocked tho... where's the world heading to.. :-\

Remember the world wide GKB legislation...

Pirate proxy ;)

Blocked in the Netherlands too :(
I have a sneaking suspicion that they are using DNS to implement these blocks. So, all you need to do is to change your DNS providers.
You can use OpenDNS in the States:
Primary DNS: 208.62.222.222
Secondary DNS: 208.64.220.220
If you don't want to use American DNS providers, you can try the followng:

Guru
Hi Guru,
I thought you'd like to know - my router uses OpenDNS so I thought I'd put this to the test and yes I can access the Piratebay using OpenDNS but when I try using my local ISP's DNS servers it simply doesn't load.
OpenDNS is the way forward!

Use one of the proxy servers listed here to access The Pirate Bay from the UK :)

Holy shit this is awesome.
If it's possible to control which DNS an individual computer uses from the computer rather then the router then it would be possible to write a simple virus that got everyone in the UK (and other countries that block Pirate Bay) to use OpenDNS rather than rely on their ISP.

Intellectual property is such a crock of shit.

of course it's possible, how on earth do you know what dns is and not know how lookups are done? where'd you get your master's in it security, clown school?
I never said I don't know how lookups are done, perhaps English isn't your first language?
I merely mused that it would be possible to write a virus that could disrupt the normal DNS functions of most peoples computers in countries that had blocked the pirate bay using this method and how cool that would be. I'm actually working on it right although having issues as some anti-viruses seem to have a DNS override system inbuilt, such as some versions of McAffee.

all UK isp have to block it apparently, i use o2
So if O2 looks through their logs for someone visiting thepiratebay.se around the time this thread was created, they will find your real IP address. Congrats, you just deanonymized yourself.

to stick up for this guy on o2, i would say that there was probably hundreds of o2 customers accessing thepiratebay around this time anyway. And its not exactly like the ISP's have problem with us buying drugs from SR, just the government, SOPA etc.. also, there is NOTHING illegal about posting on this forum in the way he did, whats to say that this person has actually been purchasing things on the SR? because this is a separate website and he wasn't posting anything incriminating. Its the venders that they'll try and look for anyway.

The internet will one day be heavily regulated, sanitised, un-anonymous and censored. This place will be the only refuge

I saw the Piratebay has switched to using Magnet links on its site. I'm not sure if this would provide any greater legal protection, so wonder why they've done this? Perhaps one of our more technologically gifted forum members would know?

Fuck TPB anyway, it's shit. ISOhunt is where it's at.

Fuck torrents in general, for 9.99$ per month i get a newsgroup account with 50 simultaneous connections, all is ssl encrypted so you ISP don't even know what your downloading and you are downloading at the full speed of your connection!

LOL, paying to pirate....
Fuck torrents, newsgroup, all of them! There's thousands of good sites offering straight HTTP downloads of everything you want, which you can run through a VPN if you want privacy.

lol you will pay the same amount for a vpn account.. the ssl newsgroup account is like a vpn tunnel between you and the server. it's pretty cheap and you get HD dvd-rip in 15-20 minutes, normal films in 5 minutes ..

A) You can get very good anonymous VPN's for free
B) The download time for any good VPN or newsgroup is the same.
C) Newsgroups can be a security risk, and aren't really anonymous, although for pirated films it doesn't matter.
The bottom line is I don't want to pay for movies, I find paying to pirate ludicrous, if I did I would pay $5 a month for Netflix.

lol and torrents are not a security risk? The company that host the vpn server has your ip address in their logs too .. there is no secure solution for pirated films. But i respect your opinion, Netflix is a great film supplier but they don't offer games or applications for downloads

OscarZulu can you give me a decent VPN service dude? I don't want to use HMA again because they are hot now. Want an unknown one.
-
Limetless I'll send you a PM with some VPN's, don't want to write them here... if anyone else want's to know then just ask.

Cheers bruv. :)

is TPB the only blocked torrent site on the uk?

Isohunt still seems to be working fine at least - as we said above if you use OpenDNS you can still access it. In fact the block is so ridiculously easy to circumvent I'm surprised they bothered.
Update : Just found this page - http://www.ichi.co.uk/post/22269260925/bypassing-the-uk-pirate-bay-blocks-via-proxies-mirrors dated May 02 which lists no less than 11 different mirrors for TPB.

torrentday or any other private tracker is the way to go . And the idea of bitcoins was inspired from torrents I belive. Just like Buttcoin is a peer-to-peer butt. Peer-to-peer means that no central authority issues new butts or tracks butts. These tasks are managed collectively by the network. It’s like a bitcoin, but with butts instead.
