Title: Bitcoin Fog secure? Or there other??
Post by: Catnip on June 12, 2012, 05:05 pm
Is Bitcoin Fog secure? How  long i must wait for 60 BTC? Can is send the BTC direct to SR from Bitcoin Fog? Is it secure enough when is send my Bitcoins from MtGox > Bitcoin Frog > SR?
Or there any other services like this that are recommended?

sending them through multiple addresses is not very effective. you need different coins than what you started out with. bitcoin fog takes your dirty coins and gives you a mix of dirty and clean coins

NO ONE can say with absolute certainty that any special service website is absolutely secure and private, and that has to go for bitcoin fog as well. That being said, the transactions from the fog to say, SR, or anywhare for that matter, are untraceable according to vlad!mir and others who conducted tests using blochain.info. The originating BTC addresses did not appear in the chain. This proves that the service does what it claims to do, cover your tracks, and at a very modest price to boot.

I would say a week is safe - soyyo seems to have great faith in me, let's see if I can earn it.

The mixer used by Bitcoinfog allows you to withdraw the cash in random amounts. The greater the amount of time you leave your coins in the fog, the harder it is to trace them however the crucial stage is when your coins are "tumbled" - the more you tumble your coins the better. In plain English this means if you send your coins back to your Bitcoinfog wallet, for a small fee they will be mixed in yet again with those of other users - this is actually more secure than tumbling them once and withdrawing them over a week, although you will pay a small commission (1 - 3% twice).

My advice to you would be to tumble the coins via Bitcoinfog once and then withdraw them to your SR wallet over three days. Don't forget SR itself has a mixer built into each account (in fact this was what I was tracing via blockchain.info with the help of another user) although it isn't as good as Bitcoinfogs in that it tumbles the same amount of coins each time.

If you're still worried after using Bitcoinfog then I'd suggest you do what I do and create a new SR account and send your Bitcoins there before sending to your actual account. That way they'll be tumbled once again free of charge.

Of course all these problems disappear for the buyer when you use cash to buy your BTC, I might have mentioned this once or twice before. :-)

I was answering this about an hour ago and got all sorts of traffic difficullties. Here it is again.

You determine the length of time that it takes. It could take as little as six hours. But I recommend a longer period. I will go out on a limb and contradict Vlad there, you don't need a week, that's overkill. But for better safety, you could break up the deposits in chunks, say your 60 BTC, make a 25 BTC withdrawal to your SR account. You might make it for 12 to 18 hours, 24 if you're skittish. When all the mini deposits are in there and accounted for, you go back to bitcoin fog and set up another withdrawal, this one for say 35 BTC.

But get this, before you set up the second series of withdrawals, request a new bitcoin fog address. Then use that address from which to withdraw.

A note of CAUTION: never change the bitcoin fog address when you are sending bitcoins THERE; the coins may not arrive, they would be lost forever.

And that's it, in a nutshell. Good luck to you.

There's another one operating as a hidden service under http://tblbrxrd7mnimwg5.onion/. I haven't used it myself, so I cannot speak for its legitimacy. Tread carefully!

Thanks Soyyo,

Perhaps on reflection 72 hours is a bit excessive, I'm sure 24 will do. You have to strike a balance with paranoia between staying safe and being slowed down!

In any case many thanks to Mozart for indicating a new coin tumbler. Since I have a few Bitcoins to spare I will tumble a few from various exchanges and my wallets and then take a peek at the block chain to see if it is performing as promised - watch this space...!

You have never answered my Question from the other thread:

Danke!!!
