Title: Tor, VPN, & mobile phone.

I was wondering if it would be a pretty good security measure if used on an android or iPhone. Any thoughts?

Provided you used a phone running at least version 3.3 of the Android OS which supports device encryption and you used an anonymous method to connect to the internet e.g a Pay as you Go SIM chip which you reload with cash, this could actually give you a greater level of anonymity than using a computer.

The only downsides I can see is being located due to having to use mobile phone antennas in a certain area and there also may be security vulnerabilities in Orbot and Orweb -does anyone have any info on this?

& what about ios? Also I heard if you turn on airplane mode it would help get you "off grid".

No way on god's green earth should you use Tor and access Silk Road through iOS.

Turning on airplane mode helps you get off grid for the time you're offline, but iOS contacts Apple and sends them records of your location of everything you're doing and where you are as soon as you connect to them again.

Also your internet won't work in Airplane mode, so Tor won't work!

The reason it's insecure is because you don't really disable scripts and browser addons when browsing using a mobile device (including android) which means your real IP and location etc can be given away very easily. (Java driveby's, javascript exploits etc)

Definitely use Android as vlad1m1r above said, and encrypt it fully. FULLY.

So VPN doesn't help encrypt that data sent back to apple? And yeah I didn't understand how you can use the Internet in airplane mode.
