The video is sort of a Soup-like setup about dealers now accepting Tide laundry detergent as currency.
Is this a joke?

Aside from the popular myth about dealers watering down their wares with laundry powder I imagine this is a bit of a wind up!

Nevertheless if you think about it laundry detergent lends itself well to being a tradeable commodity - it's easily divisible, keeps for ages and also is something that absolutely everyone will always need.

Maybe we'll see e-tide currencies backed by stockpiles of detergent in the near future - it would add a whole new meaning to the term 'money laundering'!

This is nothing new, especially in these economic times.

High value disposable items have been negotiable as currency in some cases ... things like razors, coffee, cigarettes etc. I dont assume you get much for it, but its easier to get rid of then car steroes and DVD's that junkies usually roll up with IMO
