Title: Truecrypt - Ubuntu/Linux
Post by: shoehorn on June 01, 2012, 07:23 pm
Due to my inexperience I'm sure with Ubuntu/Linux I'm having a problem with Truecrypt.

I installed it, no problem. Created my container, downloaded the Tor bundle got up and running and everything seemed fine. However, when I try to go back on, truecrypt seems to disappear. I can't find the executable (other than in /bin) and it's gone from the Applications menu.

I reinstall it, without recreating the container and the same thing happens. Mount the "file/container" get on Tor, I try it again and it's gone. Lather-rinse-repeat.

I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on what I'm doing wrong or don't understand.

Thanks!

Hi buddy sorry to hear about your woes, I use Ubuntu myself. Can I ask what version you're running? I've been using Truecrypt on 11.10 and 12.04* with no problems so far.

*Or 'Oneric Ocelot' and 'Precise Pangolin' for the purists.

Self - Works like a charm. Thanks!

Vlad - It tells that I'm running 10.04 LTS.

I'll go with Self's suggestion. Over time, it will become apparent what my problem is/was.

Thanks again guys!

but doesn't linux have a good enough encryption system already?  Does encrypting the home folder not do enough to protect one's privacy?
