I am new to the SR, I am curious at what is the smoothest avenue to get Bitcoins in my SR wallet to exchange to vendors. I have made it this far and need a little advice to start buying.

Hi buddy,
Welcome to SR!
There are a number of ways you can obtain Bitcoins.
I recommend you have a read of the website www.weusecoins.com and also the Bitcoin wiki at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Main_Page - that'll give you a bit of background reading.
Probably the easiest (albeit least anonymous) way to get hold of Bitcoins is to use the website MtGox - do your homework by taking a look at the above links, then feel free to ask if you have further questions.
All the best,
V.

Thanks I have been doing a bit of reading, I looked at Mt. Gox. Notice they ask you for an email, is that were the privacy lacks.
To review....
After setting up the Mt. Gox. I can buy Bitcoin through them and transfer them to SR. Then pay vendors. No need to have anything in between that?

if ya want the most privacy, your best bet is buying MP's and sellin them to ppl like BTCpal or sugar mama through escrow but its more expensive
-
I don't know what MP's are?? I'm ok with using Mt. Gox but the website isn't letting me go on through Tor... Any suggestions, or another avenue. would like to start using the site. Thanks

its not terribly cheap but there are plenty of people on the silk road who are trusted and can manage big ammounts
btcking is a good one

Mt gox is lacking in privacy because they flag tor users and make them fill out forms.
They force you on the clearnet, and I think there's a limit to the amount you can withdraw at a time without getting flagged.
Okay, here's what I do:
1) bitinstant.com (through tor, with a tormail)
2) thru bitinstant (if ure in US), choose cash deposit>mt gox.
3) go to near chase branch, deposit amount to account they tell you (buying bitcoin is legal)
4) money appears in mt. Gox. Buy btc. Send to your private wallet.
5) private wallet should be torified. You should, optimally turn the internet off for a little bit, install bitcoin wallet software, torify. Close. Turn internet back on, run tor, run wallet.
6) from there I transfer funds to silk road.
I like this system so far.
Notes: use a new identity in vidalia when you switch from wallet to silk road, and vice versa. Do not surf the road with ure wallet running. Do not have a clearnet browser, yahoo, or torrent program or anything that uses the internet running while you're using tor. Use different names for forum, mt gox, road, and email. Make sure none of the names are associated with anything you've ever done on the clearnet.
Keep your computer secure, free from spyware and virii, and use strong passwords. Bookmark the correct urls you need to use. For optimal safety, runing everything in an encrypted container if u can stand the wait. I don't do this though.
Pine knows a way to access gox anonymously, but not looking like tor. Some vpn something or other. Planning to research it soon.
If you live in europe I have no idea what to tell you. I think bitinstant has a europe bank, not sure. Or there's always cash in the mail thru get-bitcoin.com

If you are in Europe, feel free to send me a message. I see Bitcoins for cash in the mail however you did put $ to Bitcoins as the thread title so I assume you're in the US - PsilocybinTendencies' seems spot on as far as I can see.
