Title: Something to stop an electric fan
Post by: scooterfan on May 17, 2012, 05:18 pm
My neighbors in the place immediately below me run a fan connected to their ceiling/my floor all hours of the night.  Its been like 8 months now and Ive tried working with them and explaining that it keeps me up all hours.

Is there anything that I could put on my floor above the fan that would either cause it to break or stop working in any manner.  Laying in bed all hours of the night and never sleeping is taking a toll on me.  If anyone has anything, id love to buy it

I've done my fair share of electical wiring, but there isn't anything that would kill the fan, unless it had a remote they use?! Then you could get something that would repeat the signal and just click it back off.
OR if you could get under the floor to the wiring and disconnect it?!  :o

Other options:
Complain to landlord about the noise, and seek a middle-ground   :'(
Place a large rug, rubber mat, sound-absorbing material between the floor and your bed   ;)

Good luck!

trying to EMP your neighbors fan out underneath you sounds like a really bad idea. it could catch fire and pretty sure you dont want the fan below your feet to be on fire.. it could trip the breaker to their apartment, or the entire complex..

most attempts at disabling it blindly from above seem like they could ultimately end up very badly.

is this fan broken or something? most fans arent that loud, maybe offer to buy part of a new one? complain to the landlord? run your own fan to block the noise?

Don't you think EMP for a fan would be a bit OTT? Also since you're setting it off in your own room wouldn't you fry your own devices? Why not have a tactful word with the neighbours?

1. Buy thermite.
2. Fill flowerpot with thermite.
3. Place filled pot directly over the fan's location.
4. Light thermite with magnesium ribbon/flare.
5. ?????
6. Profit!!

If they've been running it for 8months of the year, unless you live in the tropics, surely they'll be turning it off soon for the cooler months?

Mix 4 grams cocaine with 40 grams baking soda. Send to them in a sketchy package not well put together powder falling out ect. Call police make a tip of about the package. people below you receive controlled delivery go to jail for a long time.
The only downside is that this is not a permanent solution as they would eventually get out of jail but honestly just rinse + repeat and your good for another 3 years or so the second time since its their second offense.
