Title: Learn Language faster than normal with the help of drugs?
Post by: IsThisAGoodUsername on May 07, 2012, 04:23 am
I was wondering if any congnitive enhancing drugs (maybe noopept?) would help in learning a language faster. (And no I'm thinking something ridiculous like a week... Just maybe 1-3 months instead of 1-3 years.)

For my sins I did a Masters Degree in Linguistics while at University and so find this concept intriguing - I have to say I doubt that any drug could help you absorb information so readily as learning a language is also about assimilation of the accent, meter and any unfamiliar phonemes. Fluency in another language actually does cause physical changes in your brain - new neurones grow to accommodate it, I doubt there is any drug which could achieve the same effect but am prepared to be amazed!

That doesn't mean to say you can't improve your IQ to make it easier for you to learn languages of course. Adderall has shown promising results in increasing IQ but it's not without its side effects. Cod Liver Oil also does wonders for keeping your neurones firing as you get older.

My advice to you is to try one of the Rosetta Stone courses which will allow you to master the basics of a language quickly and then spend a few months living and working in your country of choice. You'll be amazed at how fast you'll learn! :-)
