Hi there, i have a pretty simple question which i have been having some trouble finding a definitive answer. Does it make a difference to my security if someone using the same wireless connection is sat on the clear web browsing?
Thanks very much in advance... Jazz

An excellent question - not unless your flatmate is a computer prodigy and is willing to sit around waiting to analyse your traffic.

Your ok, unless he is doing similar illicit activities on clear web and gets you raided :)

I concur! It would take a lot of time, a lot of hacking expertise and the right software for sniffing and decrypting. You'll be fine mate. Each tor connection is unique, not shared.

Actually, this brings up a question I've had recently as well.
Let's say I'm running the TOR Package on my computer... TOR is active, secure browser on SR...
Can I use a different browser, for example chrome, to surf the clearnet the same time I am on TOR using the same machine?

I am not sure about Chrome, but you can set up firefox to connect using the tor proxy.

Yes, you can. The 'potential' risk comes when visiting clearnet sites with logins through tor while also using SR, iirc.

Thanks for the help people. My flat mate aint no computing prodigy, so baked he can hardly see me right now never mind sniff my packets.
I was under the impression that you could use another browser, get real speed browsing while also being on tor, but "they" will be able to see you've been to the silk road, not what you have been up to there though. I have a separate silk road account for viewing goods and another real one for doing anything incriminating. Not sure if it would help but, that's what i do.
Much love 8)

No jazzanova, Yes LittlePharma. Generally, don't access clearweb through Tor if you've another browser open. I'm wary of these universal login systems everybody's got going nowadays, who knows who is passed what data.

should be safe to use tor browser and non tor browser at same time, only risk is if you use both to access the same site with tor and without tor at the same time, your internet could die and that will leave a correlation that could deanonymize you.
