There's a few raffles and lottos floating around on the silk road so why not group them together in a category for those who are feeling lucky :)

I've often thought this would be a good idea so much Kudos to you my friend.
The best way to make sure that the game isn't fixed would be to use an random value we can't influence, such as the last two digits of the US National Debt at a set time in the future (http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/).
I'd be happy to set this up on the Mods behalf but suggest as you say that we have only the one lotto/raffle on the forums to stop the whole thing turning into an online Casino - also suggest the Moderators be in charge of the money pot to make sure no one is cheated.
Look forward to hearing more ideas.

Further to my last post, I managed to find this link on the US Treasury website where you can see the US Public debt on any given day down to the last penny.

The penny value seems to be a fairly arbitrary random value which no individual member of SR can influence. I'd suggest we use something like this for the basis of a raffle/lottery.
Most importantly you can go back and check it any time so people would know they weren't being fleeced when the results were announced. Virtual lottery tickets on sale soon! :)

Ah sweet I'm so glad my idea was looked at and there's now a games and lotteries category, how awesome. I'll post other ideas from now on as they come to mind

Glad to see we have a Lotto category.
With respect to Lothaun though, we have to take his/her word for it that buying a ticket will result in a win - in this case the buyer sends in their public key and the seller posts an encrypted voucher code on their profile, which you may or may not be able to encrypt.
We are expected to take it on trust that the seller will not use a public key of their own - we also don't seem to have an easy way to find out the odds of winning.
This was why I suggested an arbitrary value be used like the one above and a set number of tickets sold before making the draw.

the odds are 1 in 10 for the first drawing. it will be done as soon as 10 orders are finalised. I will not delete your key from my keyring, so you might still win the next drawing, or 10 drawings from now. I know you have to take trust, but I roll a set of dice to pick the winner in order of my key list in gpg4usb. I don't know any way to make you trust the lotto. maybe I will do screenshots to show zero BTC withdrawn , but all turned in to coupons. i gave away 39BTC for the 4/20 weekend it would have been 40 but one buyer did not finalise, so 1 btc still in escrow. I assure you I am not taking any BTC for myself now or ever. any admin of the site can look into account to verify that .I think giving is fun, and gambling is fun too.
other lotterys and raffle do to make money but I DO NOT!

Hi Lothaun,
I think this is a great idea - probably the best way to make this fair would be to number the tickets in advance and then to use an arbitrary value to determine the winnings - the one I suggested was the last two digits of the US Deficit on any given day e.g the end of this month. That way no one can argue this is rigged.

All the best,
