Title: Unique PGP Problem!
Post by: genghar on April 10, 2012, 05:35 pm
Hey all.  Somewhat new here, though I have been lurking through the main site and forums for a while.

I was recently told by a seller that my PGP message wasn't decrypting.  I tried it out myself with a dummy key and confirmed this.  The error message is "'Clipboard' contained no valid encrypted data".  The weird thing is, I can encrypt/decrypt messages sent to myself just fine, and this test page works as well http://p3lr4cdm3pv4plyj.onion/test.php.  I have tried two computers and several different encrypting/decrypting programs, and none of it works.

Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong?

It may be the version of PGP you're running buddy - can you tell us which it is?

Thanks for the response!

I have primarily tried using the GNU Privacy Assistant which comes with the latest gpg4win.  It says:  GPA 0.9.1-svn1024.

"'Clipboard' contained no valid encrypted data".

that happens to me many times, you just keep repeating it again and again, as long as you can, there is some buffer, you need to push it away, also check if it message actually, it happens to me that it was not a message but a public key instead. if it is public key then it is written on top public key.

I get that error if:

- no headers/footer.. some people cut+paste just the encrypted wall of text not the BEING PGP MESSAGE part
-sometimes the dashes in the header/footer are spaced out. - - - - - BEGIN PGP TEXT - - - - - just delete the dashes
-sometimes the tail of the message, which always is =qs09 or something on a newline just needs to be backspaced to the rest of the text

I double checked against all of that, and looked at what an encrypted message should look like.  Nothing.  Even if I go directly from encrypt->decrypt in GPA it gives the error.  Thanks for the advice, regardless!

Worked perfectly on my end :)

That's super bizarre.  It doesn't work on my end or for one of the vendors I have been in touch with.  Might it be a very specific CPU or some other configuration?  Let me see if I can decrypt other people's messages.

I was able to decrypt that.  I really have no idea what step to look at to see what might be wrong at this point.  But, thank you so so much for your time and effort mdmamail!  If I knew how karma worked, I would give you +1.

Just re-encrypt your address and send it to the vendor as a private message.
Sometimes when ppl paste me GPG inside the order system it get's totally screwed

If they're a new vendor maybe they posted the wrong public key that you're using to encrypt to them..??

Sounds like operator error. Try sending msges and decoding them from a few different people and if you get the same results post again

I haven't ordered since, but now I'm trying out a batch of orders and vendors (longtime community trusted folk) are telling me the same problem is happening.  Since I've last ordered, I have wiped my drive, so I don't think that could be the problem.

Once again, I have tried it on different computers to no luck.  I looked for the spaces and the line break, and have compared what it should look like against valid messages and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

Anybody have any further recommendations?
