Newbie Alert

Hi all,

We've have been reading a lot about bitcoins, pgp, and staying anonymous.

Could somebody explain how exactly to buy bitcoins anonymously and actually how you pay for things using the currency via SR

Thanks

TM

You can purchase Bitcoin from many different sources, for example if you're located in the USA then

*CLEARNET WARNING*

www.CoinBase.com

Is a good place to start, they require you to be verified I believe. Also you can try LocalBitcoins which is P2P and buy using a bank deposit into the vendors bank account at your local branch. The URL for LocalBitcoins is,

*CLEARNET WARNING*

www.LocalBitcoins.com

Purchasing coins anonymously isn't that important because once you purchase the coins you can just run them though a tumbler such as BitcoinFog. The URL for BitcoinFog is, http://fogcore5n3ov3tui.onion they charge a small fee ranging from 1% - 3% but it's well worth it. Once you tumble your coins into your Silk Road account you can go ahead and purchase your items from your desired vendor and once you go though the checkout process you will need to send the vendor your delivery address.

To give a vendor your address securely you will need to learn about PGP encryption, if you're on a Windows or Linux machine then I recommend "PGP4USB" as a good PGP client to use.

If you have anymore questions feel free to contact me.

does anyone else in here think its odd that you cant delete messages from the inbox???

It's a feature that should will be added soon, just make sure you use PGP and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Christmas shutdown still on?
« on: December 08, 2013, 07:28:47 pm »
Seems like a good idea, how are vendors taking it? They will be glad for the break but would get a decent amount of orders during Xmas I would imagine.

It doesn't really make a difference, all the vendors are probably receiving a huge increase in the amount of orders during the run up to Christmas because of the temporary closure.

The only way to get better is to play someone better.
 -I dont fuckin know

How are we newbs suppose to grow out of newberdom if were surround with these bullshit ass threads.

its like applying for a school and automatically getting sent to special ed. the fuck

It's to stop people making a account and going straight to the main forum to spam, now they have to get 50 posts which will put most people off from doing it.

Don't they have a login log? to know if someone really got connected to my account?

I am currently running WireShark and some others tools to analyze my computer, nothing looks compromised..

Contact support here, you will need to create a temporary account to do so.

Do you guys think I can hope to get a refund?

If this was somehow a bug then I believe so, but this doesn't really seem like one to me. Silk Road doesn't give refunds to people who have had their accounts compromised.

Anyone can deposit into their account, wait 20 minutes and withdraw to a address and claimed they was hacked, I am not saying this is what you did but it's definitely looking like the account has a withdrawal made by someone who had access to the account.

I can't remember but I remember the cancelled FBI logo behind the login form.
I am sure I was on the good one as I can remember we were not able to deposit / send message and browse listing of others member for a little time while they finish to fully setup SR 2.0

cancelled fbi logo?

When Silk Road came back it had a edited version of the FBI seizure notice which they placed on the seized site.

If you're in doubt about the URL for BitcoinFog you can always check on,

*CLEARNET WARNING*

www.BitcoinFog.com

It has the current URL there.

This is my first deposit on SR 2.0.
I never used the PIN code before.

I had different credentials on Sheep / BMR

as I typed my pin code ONCE time, in this case it means I would get phished by register. so the account wouldn't be created and make it pointless.

+ How would the guy know he just connected WHEN I dropped some money on the SR acc. It's so weird

Thanks for your assistance

How did you locate the URL for Silk Road market? This doesn't seem like a bug to me, looks more like a compromised account, hopefully a staff member comes in and can explain what happened.

Transfer usually take between 20/30 minutes in my experience to be confirmed and active on the account.
Looks really being a bug as 21 minutes after, the other address received the money..

Silk Road credits a balance normally when it receives 3 confirmations from the network, how did you access Silk Road when you logged into the account? Did you find the URL from the "Hidden Wiki"? It is possible you get phished and someone managed to gain access to your account that way and withdraw the funds.

Don't worry, your coins have not gone. It's just a bug, if you log in and out then your balance should appear again.

« on: December 08, 2013, 04:13:23 pm »
wow. Is it reallly that simple? Nice. I thought it was going to be more complicated.

Also, while we're at it... Do you happen to recall which wallet was preferred for use with tails?

Electrum is one of the widely used wallets in Tails, but you don't really need to use a wallet if you're just placing orders because you can send from LocalBitcoins or other exchanges straight to Silk Road of course using a tumbler when doing so. The only reason you would want to use a wallet is when you purchase a excess amount of coins and want to store them for a later purchase.
