Alright thanks, I'll give that a shot. I went the route of the pre-paid card to keep it as discreet as possible, but I guess with an amount that small, it doesn't look too sketchy.

It doesn't matter too much how you purchase your coins because once you have them then you can use a tumbler to help keep your transactions untraceable. With a small amount such as yours I would suggest using,

Newbie Discussion / Re: How Do I Become A Vendor ?
« on: December 08, 2013, 11:41:30 pm »
Hi freddobar,

Vendor registration is currently closed, keep a eye on this thread for updates on when they will open again. You will have to pay a bond which is refunded once you reach a certain level of sales and if your account is good order.

The current bond price is $200 but as the thread states it will go up once registration opens again.

I am not new to the site and how it works necessarily. I have been doing research and setting up the appropriate safety measures before just jumping into the site. Now that I am here though, I want to start by making a small purchase, but I need bitcoins. I bought a $45USD Visa Vanilla card and now I am trying to find someone who trades in transactions that small. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Your best bet is to head over to,

*CLEARNET WARNING*

www.LocalBitcoins.com

I know some vendors accept Vanilla in exchange for Bitcoin, in future I would recommend you purchase your Bitcoin via bank deposit because there are far more vendors accepting that and all you have to do is go to the branch closest to you where the vendor banks with and just drop the money into their account.

In order to buy bitcoins is it necessary to set up a wallet first? Also how do you then transfer through to SR.
It seems that everything is based on trust and I wouldn't like to make mistakes going through this process.
No wallet is needed because you can send from LocalBitcoins straight to BitcoinFog or Blockchain then on to Silk Road.

I do prefer to store my coins in an offline wallet myself, though. See (clearnet) http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

I am a big fan of paper wallets myself, when I have Bitcoin they always get stored in a paper wallet until I need to use them. Just gets rid of that worry of losing your coins to something malicious or a online wallet going rouge.

thanks dudes i get worried everytime i bug/glitch happens :( just a worrier lol.  v2 prob got a loads of kinks to work out. i want to make deposit but defo not while its minus haha
cheers

It's one of the reasons why Silk Road is closing over Christmas to make sure they can iron out the kinks and not have to worry about affecting users by continuous downtime.

I am aware some users (1%>) are having some issues with depositing or withdrawing their bitcoin, as well as random missing funds which is later re-credited and randomly low account balances. We are aware of the problems and we are looking into it but it is not a high priority issue, funds are not permanently changed or go missing so if this happens please wait a few hours and give the system time to sort itself out as we believe this is the result of expanding our infrastructure and the bitcoin process may be struggling to keep up with all the new deposits and bitcoin activity now that active connections and bitcoin commands have exceeded that of the first market already.

Here is a quote from DPR letting people know that he is aware of the issue,

@ChemCat
Have you lost your Christmas spirit, no holiday hugs? :(

I am US buyer

My advice would be go read the threads in the "Rumor Mill" section, there is plenty of reviews regarding various vendors in there.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: AM I OK TO DEPOSIT TO SR NOW
« on: December 08, 2013, 11:00:29 pm »
hi i have been hearing about problems depositin to SR ie funds dissapearing is this still a problem anyone?

The majority of users who deposit are not experiencing any problems, only a small number of people are seeing the account balance glitch and change to 0 or a negative balance for a short period but it does correct itself normally after logging out then logging back in again. You're OK to go ahead and deposit.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: Ok to send vendor a little extra coin?
« on: December 08, 2013, 10:44:05 pm »
Don't quote me on this but the vendor has already paid the correct fee's for the transaction you did with them so I don't see how it would be against the rules to send them a tip.

1660
yes that is 110% correct,

i deposited from the address i gave, and when i came back onto SR to make my order, i read through the vendors profile and i didnt realise it stated the seller wanted FE, i never FE for anyone, so i decided to withdraw my bitcoins back to my wallet i originally deposited them from, which i thought would not be a problem????!!!!

but it is a massive problem, no one could have got my login details and done the withdrawal because im the one who withdrew it! yet its a totally different Bitcoin wallet to the one that i provided.......

Tang,
There is also the option to mask them on the Blockchain, correct?  Or is that not as safe. I was considering the bitfog but found that Blockchain method so much easier.

Sure, you can use Blockchain. If you're just a small time buyer then there isn't too much to worry about, putting your coins though a tumbler just helps add a extra little bit of security to your transactions.

1662
I don't really know how this can happen, from the addresses you gave me you seemed to have deposited,

0.087 BTC - https://blockchain.info/address/19goSwTfgQJLUqTEMaePi7zL6htFM4wtCG - 19:19:49

Then you claim you withdrew back to 19goSwTfgQJLUqTEMaePi7zL6htFM4wtCG the same wallet you deposited with but instead the deposit went to,

0.086901 - https://blockchain.info/address/1Dv1KSw7vATdd5fiq21YQGyFHqAbbo9ZwS - 20:24:43

Just curious to why you deposited 0.87 then withdrew 0.86 in the space of a hour, also the $250 issue is slightly different to yours. They are claiming that they deposited and the deposit has gone missing and somehow withdrawn without them processing a withdrawal.

Also, you claim you withdrew for safe keeping but you only deposited them a hour before the withdrawal why not just send direct to your Blockchain wallet?

i decided to withdraw to my own blockchain wallet for safe keeping. which i did my blockchain wallet is 19goSwTfgQJLUqTEMaePi7zL6htFM4wtCG

Thanks Tang,

Sorry to ask basic questions, just tottally new.

Is there a step by step guide on how to transfer Bitcoins to the tumbler and then onto SR

Once again thank you

When you create a account at BitcoinFog you will get a deposit address, you should copy this address and then go to LocalBitcoins and click withdraw and paste your BitcoinFog deposit address into the space provided. Once you have 6 confirmations by the network then your Bitcoin will appear into your BitcoinFog account and you can start to tumble your coins into your Silk Road account.

Here is a paragraph from BitcoinFog explaining how their process works,

Quote
How the service works

You register an account on our website and deposit bitcoins to the designated address. After a couple of network confirmations, your money is registered on your Fog account, and you can schedule withdrawals. Each withdrawal will be split in a random number of payouts, depending on the amount, and the relative size of each payout will be randomized as well. Even the timing of those payouts will be randomly spread out over a period of time you will specify.

I understand coin base is best for US customers is there an alternative for example if theoretically a purchaser was based in the Europe.

Once again thank you

Yes, if you was from Europe then,
