Silk Road Discussion / Re: Gwerns recommendations
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:29:35 am »
I really hope mandatory GPG is happening. Not just for order addresses but also messages. There is literally zero reason not to. If you think saving a couple seconds with worth losing any amount of security you don't belong here.

When you say "I really hope mandatory GPG is happening" do you mean an automated system of PGP encryption built into the site itself or a requirement for all users to use PGP encryption?

Dear all, I have received the following from the author of the above post:
Quote
It's come to my attention that an article I published earlier today might
have offended some of the Silk Road community, not least those involved in
the launch of the Silk Road 2.0.

The piece was in no way meant to be malicious or derogatory to SR 2.0's
userbase, or otherwise slighting toward the decision of SR 2.0's moderators
to delay the launch of that site so as to be sure its security is airtight.
If anything, we're of the opinion the article comes off as a brief defense
of that choice.

That said, I understand there's particular issue around the word
"fiending". The idea there was to show how the community, in the wake of
the SR 1.0, are eagerly awaiting a new, reliable alternative--or in my
words, "for a return to something like normalcy." It was perhaps a poor
choice of wording in the end, and for that I apologize for any harm done.
We've gone ahead and removed that word from the piece.

Once again, my apologies to anyone who might have been offended by the
article.

Respectfully,

Brian A. Anderson

I bet he had to choke down some ego typing that out, personally I do not believe a word of it but you asked for a retraction and an apology and you got it DPR so there you go.

Moral of this story, do not fuck with the Silk Road community Brian ;)

All I want to know is why they havent called me coachella yet.

Thats usually their backup plan.

Why so angry moon unit? we all got burnt when silk road went down, some of us a lot more so than others and no one is asking you to trust anyone here, trust is earned not implicit. I feel all the moderators and DPR have been very clear on the rules of engagement, treat all sites as if they are compromised from day 1, protect your anonymity and tread carefully.

OK,so I was a loyal SR customer,only small time,nothing BIG but fuck did I love it :)
Every transaction was perfect and I was in love with the system and the professionalism of the vendors whom I had the pleasure to deal with :)
Since its downfall I have been browsing BMR and trying to find the guys from SR that I trusted and respected, most of them not there :(
However, some vendors I did use who were HIGHLY established on the old SR(europe/uk) are warning people to stay well clear of the new SR on the forums there.Saying it is a SCAM site, its dangerous and that they will never go back to sell there.WTF is this about, why would these trusted vendors be saying and feeling like this?I find their comments a bit out of order to say the least!!

Do you have any clue how much money was seized from their accounts? They have a right to be angry and suspicious. Keep your coins offsite.

You need to remember a lot of coins would have been tied up in escrow when the Feds seized the site so not possible to keep off site.

Skepticism is entirely justified and a healthy dose of paranoia keeps us all on our toes. What I can tell you though is I am reliably informed that the new site will have security protocols and measures in place that will prevent a repeat of what happened with the old site.

I would like to qualify that statement by saying I do not expect anyone to just take me at my word on this matter either and I am sure DPR will be able to provide the appropriate reassurances when the time is right in a way that does not compromise the operation.

With regards to buyers who are concerned regarding this issue I would advocate not keeping your coins in your silk road account wallet and simply transfer them at the time you are ready to place an order.

Most vendors who have verified themselves from the original silk road have already put their listings up.

He does, he has an entire subreddit modded by his own army of shills.

Good point, it will also further undermine the FBI's case against Ross, something I am sure has not escaped them given their 'victory' will have been rather short lived.

Suck it Feds.

Did coachella write that piece? good to see they can't spell correctly either, it's "original" you dumb ass Brian Anderson!

"In other words, SR 2.0's admins, which include one "Libertas", a shadowy figure who was one the top moderators on the SR 1.0 (and who some even believe is the origianal DPR, or Dread Pirate Roberts), want to assure their fiending userbase that yes, their bitcoin won't be compromised. You know, not like the founder of the so-called "next Tor market kingpin", who made off with all his users' money last week."

Well said AussieMitch and I concur with the sentiment regarding government propaganda. Just of late I have seen a regression in stance and a hardening of attitude leading to the old tried and tested populace rousing rhetoric "think of the children and drugs are bad m'kay" mentality, something I hoped we had moved beyond but clearly not.

Your words are inspiring and it serves as a reminder we are doing so much more here than just buying and selling drugs, we are making a stand for what we believe in and know to be right.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: Search functions
« on: November 05, 2013, 08:33:21 pm »
The functionality will evolve overtime, from what I have seen so far all the basics are there but some fine tuning is needed. Given the development timescale however I am blown away by what has been achieved to be honest.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: you don t stop a countdown timer
« on: November 05, 2013, 07:58:54 pm »
I have to admit to being somewhat mystified by some of these old expressions. Perhaps it would be better to say something along the lines of complaining even if you found a big box of gold in your living room. Unless, of course,  you stubbed your toe on it. That would be unpleasant as well.

I think it could be akin to complaining that your money clip is too small for your roll of hundreds ;)

It will be worth the wait people, I can appreciate some frustration the initial launch was put back but perspective is a wonderful thing.

do not set up a  countdown if you aren t 100%

I don t care if market launches in another week but stopping a countdown clock  is just ridiculous.

I would offer the very fact that there is a timer at all is more important, has this importance been overlooked do you think? a delay is rather inconsequential given what we are about to do.

1. Not celebrated.

2. People mark it for the idea, not the man.

3. The idea that one man can change the world.

^^^ This

Guy Fawkes was a 16th century radical who was willing to go to extreme lengths for his beliefs.

But wasnt the celebration initiated by the King to celebrate the fact that he failed.

Initially yes, people were encouraged to burn fires to celebrate the kings escape however it has evolved overtime, people were burning effigy's of the pope at one time.

Today the image (mask) of Guy Fawkes is more closely associated with anti-establishment groups.
