Title: Warning of a scammer + tips for new buyers and vendors.
Post by: drugfather on December 04, 2011, 06:20 am
I supposedly bought 6 pills of 20mg OC (oxycontin) via moneypak (I hate bitcoins and they're a pain in the ass) from silkroad user HepaAir: http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/index.php/silkroad/user/12215

almost a month later... no package received.. apparently, he's """resending"'" the package. after talking to a reputable vendor.... basically, I'm fucked and I've been scammed...

Here's a lesson....

Deal with trusted vendors only..

If you're a new vendor trying to get noticed as reputable, go to a reputable vendor and purchase from them to show your legitimacy.

Talk around and get to know who you're buying and selling from.

Learn from my mistake please!

Thanks!

... wtf?

you basically mailed cash to a stranger you met on an anonymous website and expected them to mail you narcotics.

if there is a lesson to be learned here, it's use the system that's in place... it sucks to get ripped off, i feel for ya... but fuck... bitcoin? escrow? there's a reason these exist, right?

why doesn't silkroad ban people reported as scammers? (given a few people reported them)

Because that would make it too easy for rival venders to knock out the competition.

If you stay within the escrow system and/or stick to reputable venders, your chances of getting ripped off are actually very small.

idk hepa has a ton of complaints on him... there should be some administrative action done once so many people have complained... I had no idea about the forums and if I would've I never would've "purchased" from him in the first place

You should definitely report him to SR, he has banned sellers before.

I'm personally just astounded that people continue to neglect the escrow process for new venders despite all the warnings in the buyers guide and the wiki and the forums.

I know that I personally would never give someone my money without having done a *little* research on the transaction I was about to make.  Maybe I'm just jaded.

I prefer the term jaded to realistic, and yeah, out of escrow should only be done if you trust the person you're doing business with and even then it's sketchy

I reported him to SR and they said since out of escrow there's nothing they can do about it....

the only reason I didn't use the system built in is because you know you lose a lot of money straight up when you're dealing with bitcoins due to conversion rates and it's just a big mess.... it was easier to go to walmart and pick up a moneypak and going on reviews, dealing with a seemingly honest vendor...

Like I said I get that I messed up obviously haha so I don't know why you guys are still trying to lecture me on this...

From now on I deal with chronicpain being a moderator on the forums and a highly reputable vendor.

Some of the vendors accept cash... this guy isn't legitimate though... Sadly like you said, it is getting harder and harder to buy bitcoins which is why i prefer not to deal with them... But you take a risk in doing that as I did, and I got fucked. :-\

Anyone heard from this guy?  i have been messaging him all weekend after he told me on friday that he was away and would refund this weekend.  I think he is full of shit, his rating went from 99 to 79 so other people are now speaking out.  I wonder if SR will just let this go unnoticed or ban him for good

I DO NOT accept cash thru MP, WU, Moneygram or otherwise, its just too traceable and quite frankly too easy for LE to set me up for a pair of concrete shoes!  Any vendor that accepts this types of payments is playing with FIRE and they have YOUR address on their computer.

:)
OK, this is how it works you get scammed in escrow you report to SR.
PM's stack up on same vendor SR bans whenever he gets the prove he need's to ban a vendor.
Out of Escrow is against Silk Road Marketplace guidelines so you made a mistake by not using the escrow that is provided by the site.
