Title: The State of The Road
Post by: StExo on August 04, 2013, 03:35 am
It seems for the past 2 ½ years there has been a great continuity of surprise within the SilkRoad community that we have been around this long and as an older member known through various pseudonyms across time, it is also of great joy to be a spectator in the evolution of this great marketplace and on this, my 1000th post I wish to make my thoughts clear with all who I may be honoured to share them with. It is also remarkable  what has come of the community, being a non-user of drugs myself I originally expected to be an outcast of such a community, a person who just wasn’t part of the heart and soul of the group but now many months and years gone, I feel a great deal of mutual respect amongst many members here and have been honoured to meet the many great minds amongst us, too numerous to fully list, but I am sure upon placing such a notion in your mind you can furnish your own long list of great friends and heroes here.

I further wish to express my many orders of gratitude to those who have, with a complete sense of selflessness, sought to further the enlightenment of us all bringing a vast array of skills, ideologies and opinions to a grand table of free exchange in a place where no man, woman or child need be afraid of voicing their thoughts at liberty. Over the years we have seen the world around us crumble as the rights of the individual are eroded away by the indoctrinated dogmatists within our governments across the world and I personally believe that, even though taking drugs can be detrimental, that the freedom as found on SilkRoad can prosper healthy discussion and lead to a safer world because it is apparent, whether you agree or disagree with drugs, that it is the ignorant abuse of drugs that are damaging and not simply the drug itself. Again to name all contributions in the field would be a task too long for one man to complete in a lifetime, but as a specific example I would wish to sing praises to DoctorX who is one of the many medical doctors who come by these forums but who has taken a public stand to support those with questions and offering a full and open service expecting no payment in return when I am sure he could easily just sit home and enjoy his evenings in peace; you sir are part of the great advance in this world and I have no doubt in my mind that your efforts are greatly appreciated by many.

As a non-user and a person who up until my late teenage years was under the indoctrination of the state believing all drugs are going to kill you and leave you as a hopeless addict, I find that the privilege of being here is amazing in itself and I think the greatest discovery of all time for me is realising that to change our future, all one must do is change their attitude and whilst we may not be able the choose the cards life will hand to us, we can choose how we play those cards.

For all those reading my humble words, I want you to reflect on what we have faced so far, what DPR faces, what the staff, vendors and buyers face all the time who’s adversary is out there constantly prowling our walls and breathing down our necks. We have faced adversity, we have had difficult times in the past and we will have challenges in the future, but this is not the end of our persecution and our fight and so we must fight our enemy with the most powerful weapon which has echoed across times and peoples – that is the power of words. No matter how many men die, are thrown in jail, are persecuted or are silenced, nobody can take away the ideas which bring us together to stand against those enemies and when they break down the fortress doors we still stand together unfazed and ready to protect our beliefs no matter how large or cunning our enemy is. In the words of Peter Marshall, when we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.

Today we have learned of the loss of another great hidden service, although not confirmed just yet, it appears that the founder of Freedom Hosting has been arrested and I imagine that with such a service which ran for so long having its security penetrated is a matter we at SilkRoad must also be concerned about and so we must face up to the challenges we now have.  I have no information right now which can point to the technical vulnerability of SilkRoad, that is for the technical boffins to discuss and implement, but I feel we all still have a role in the matter and to bring to the centre stage any arising matters or new information we may find as often it is the users of this forum who are the eyes and ears of the community. Rarely does DPR or other staff stumble upon discoveries themselves without the tip-off or referral from other users and I think the credible threats to SR have been greatly reduced thanks to the vigilant actions of our community.

What we must now do is keep looking, remain vigilant in all aspects and ensure community cohesion to continue our current trend of growth and security. We have taken many problems such as the recent DDOS attacks by the horns and wrestled it to the ground. Where once the community was slammed by the media, a new age is upon us where it gives me great pleasure indeed to see the stubbornness of a nonconformist community warmly acclaimed.

So long as we keep fighting, the heart and soul of this community will never perish and I hope that in many years, people will look back and remember us. Remember those people who done something different, who stood up for their beliefs and despite having enemies glaring them in the face, they were steadfast. Whatever the future may hold for us all, it has been a pleasure to stand beside you all in this new age and I hope that as we face tomorrow, every challenge given to us is just another hurdle we will overcome because whilst our enemies may continue their agenda of imprisoning innocent people for simply expressing their freedom, they will never be able to silence the idea those people stand for and that we all still stand for – together, as one.

Really enjoyed your post. You are without doubt an asset to the community and a fountain of knowledge. Don't go anywhere.

And get back to sourcing that Actavis  :P

SteXo, you need to take stock of what you've got. You're free, you have money, business is thriving. So what the odd troll upset's you. You have to take these things in your stride son.
I note the way you've cruised the forum under different I'D s. I'd expect more from Silk Road's most famous money launderer !! What I will say though, it's great having sensible people like yourself, to keep and even keel on things, bring some logic to each situation, I'd say your in the league of astor, Self Sovereignty, and other intellectual heavyweights of the road. It keeps the equilibrium consistent. And it's good to know there are father figures of the community, who we can turn to for advice, and a different perspective.

It is a great post Stexo, Well done , Im glad to have you around.
I myself have been getting worried of late, about the situation sr is in. The government is creeping up on us slowly and undercover. I wonder myself how long it will be untill they have technology widly availaible to locate us quickly. We cannot forget that we are commiting illegal acts here, if you order internationally you are technically importing illegal substances. If you have kids and you get caught, there is a high chance you will have them taken away from you, which will be worse on the children than it is on you. If you live with family, You can get them into a lot of trouble. Depending on the amount you are importing you may not see the outside of a prison for 10 years. Is it worth it?

How safe are we really? I realized myself yesteday i was getting a bit too comfortable. Not slacking on security but getting to comfortable with the feeling of, Ahh encryption and Tails will watch my ass. Then it occured to me,  I doubt SR will be here forever. Who knows how long it will be untill it is shut down, But it is our duty to keep our community thriving for the greater good and when the ship does go down, Make sure the majority of our brothers here are as far away from it as possible so they dont get dragged down with it.

It's getting tough boys, It really is. We need to be carefull. All The government needs to do is figure out a way to control exit nodes and entry nodes, along with entry guards and they will have a good footing. I remember astor wrote a post some time ago about it all and it was truly frightening.
Lets stay focused and remember what we are doing here.If you notice something amiss or wonder if something could happen for gods sake post it, You may save lives.
I wish you ALL the best of luck.

It’s too soon to know how the final chapter of SR will be written; let’s hope that day is far in the future. Whatever the case, it is certain that we are all part of a historic undertaking. One hopes and assumes that when the next generation studies the history of the Internet, or of the drug “sub-culture,” or of economics and commerce, that Silk Road will be credited as the revolutionary enterprise that it is. Many thanks to StExo for the inspiring post, and many blessings to us all for safety and prosperity.

The government already is hitting SR where it hurts. Sales are down for everyone. Bitcoins are getting harder and harder to buy. They are targeting bitcoin. They can't directly hit SR, so they just turn off the air supply.

They are doing what they do best, pushing the underground even more out of reach where only criminals can profit from it and where it will be harder for them to track what is going on.

If youre ready to give up the fight, @russianundergroudrap just go apply for a job wearing a badge. Have fun chasing shoplifters around. Some of us here are here through good times and bad and whether or not the difficulty of buying BTC has changed we continue to fight on. Doing whatever we can to collectively improve our community and taking on those who wish to stop our progress head-on.

StExo, Having gotten to know you through the forums, i am impressed with your knowledge and dedication. Money, loyalty and friendship are 3 pillars that i lead my life by as well as some others.

You sir are an asset to our community, as long as we have members like yourself, working diligently, sometimes behind the scenes and constantly putting in as much effort and man hours as they do, we stand a chance at winning this war on drugs (war on freedom)

LE may have us out-funded and have the advantage in many other ways, but i take confidence knowing that sitting behind the account of all SR members is a real person and we are all people who have chosen this life out of desire and because we choose to live this way. The feds don't have that factor on their side. They keep people coming to work using money and false propaganda. We take time out of our day voluntarily to log on SR/SRF and our time on here is not solely linked to money...WE ENJOY BEING HERE.

tl;dr StExo I look forward to your continued presence and dedication to SR.

Thanks StExo I agree with you wholeheartedly. I had a very bad gut feeling all weekend and I've just seen the recent news. I sincerely hope nobody here has been affected. It makes me sick and truly worried about the brave people who risk their lives for our freedom.

Just a general question - what happens if SR gets shut down tomorrow? StExo do you still have the contacts of all those vendors? I wouldn't mind giving that thread a bump for existing vendors to get in quick.

Thanks friend and congrats on 1k, here's to many more.

Well said and thank you for taking the initiative to write up something we all needed to hear to keep moral up and also remind us that wars cannot be won alone.

I just wanted to point out that the beginning of the post threw me off a little as I thought this was a farewell post.. 8) Glad to see that it wasn't.. The community needs people like you.

Yes!

Although I am a new user at 4 months, I really do appreciate that this place isn't just scammers and druggies. The folks throughout this community have some very solid respect for the entire situation. The freedom that this has given everyone is marvelous. I am more willing to release my funds early to someone in a completely anonymous fashion through this marketplace than to someone I might be working with locally; there is just so much honor between folks which is exactly what is needed to make this system work.

Keep a good thing going everyone!
