Title: New 'Seller Rank' Algorithm
Post by: spice4life on July 26, 2012, 05:22 pm
There are vendors here that have received negative ratings in 1 out of 10 transactions, yet they are ranked in the top 1% because they have been here since the beginning of Silk Road. Bottom line, these vendors do not deserve to be ranked in the top 1%.

The ranking system should be based on a rolling average of the last 1000 transactions. This way, the buyer gets a better idea of how the vendor is currently operating, and the seller doesn't have to fear having his account irrecoverably damaged by a single buyer.

Also, offering the top 10% of vendors a slight discount on commissions would certainly propel this site to the next level.

Good suggestion and I think your last mention of a commission discount could certainly encourage vendors to improve their service.

However, is 1,000 too much? Would 500 not be more suitable?

I agree and think less is better. The site owners would know the best number, which is probably 300.

can you provide us with an example?

the age of the seller account should still mean a lot, IMHO.

Might help, but you recall it only takes a few shill accounts to propel a vendor up or down. I dont really bother to check the seller ratings as a buyer anyways, its all about the research.
