Title: Re: Random Mail Received - SR Vendor?

Very strange and unsettling, anyone's nightmare.  The only motivation I can think of is blackmail, although the letter does not say anything like that. Was your address pgp encrypted via SR?

maybe it's thegodfather/team snitch, or one of their copycats, perhaps someone IS actually hacking vendor accounts for blackmail purposes?

aside from the creepy wording, it seems almost like an unannounced free sample from a vendor you dealt with... are you sure there is nothing inside?  (not that this would be appopriate fro them to do, but could at least set your mind at ease) but why would they sign it "silk road guys"

there isn't a return address or a postmark of some sort denoting a location?

does it have ANYTHING in common with a package you have ordered here?

and yes, did you use pgp?

for everyone else:  rather than get all worked up, we should assume this is an isolated incident unless there are other reported cases.  if/when that happens, a simple crossreference of purchasing activity will most likely clear this up rather quickly, just like the teamsnitch incident.  this is slightly more unsettling because proof was provided that the address is in possession, however no threats were made.  the fact that no threat was made makes it seem as though this being something beyond a single incident is unlikely.
a blackmailer would ask for something, and LEO wouldn't give a warning.

One thing that has to be borne in mind is that PGP is NO protection against a corrupt, turned, or malicious vendor.

All PGP does is to ensure that only the two parties involved have access to the information. To put it in slightly more technical terms, all PGP does is to secure the communications channel between the two parties or endpoints. If the other party is a cop, or has been turned, they can decrypt your information and use it to screw you over.

yes.  i think the two of us who asked if PGP was used are aware of this.  but it would help us to determine if the address could have come from an account being compromised on SR. if PGP was used, that would be highly unlikely because getting the private key is unlikely.
also, unless a vendor was planning on using your address for something in the beginning, they wouldn't have it after your order had been sent.

Have you told/showed any of your real world friends that you use Silk Road?

One of them could be taking the piss on you for giggles.

On a forum like this, everything is suspect -- including your story.

You may want to keep the letter to compare to future orders against it to try and identify the sender, perhaps ask them directly. Otherwise perhaps someone is messing with you, i.e. A friend you have told about SR

Whilst I sure as hell wouldn't want to receive a letter like that, looking for a bright side, is there any chance anyone you know is a dealer and you didn't know. As in they're on SR, noticed your address and said g'day?

Perhaps not a friend (that'd be just cruel) but perhaps someone you use locally?

That's creepy as fuck...

Just out of curiosity though, what was the last thing you ordered on SR? It was from a trusted seller right?

o.o it's gonna suck if this is just some fucking with you for shits and gigs and you just broke useful comp parts.

Hope everything turns out to be okay on your end.

Ram and hard drives are relatively inexpensive. I would rather be safe than sorry.

Yea, i see your point, so i must agree with ya on that. Never hurts to be safer regardless if its just a scare tactic.

Yeah I would be pretty damn paranoid too if I was in his shoes. That is pretty freaky. As long as you keep your side of the street clean (which you are doing,) there really isn't much to worry about that I can think of..

oh hell, that has already happened to me. I got an order and recognized the name and location. Shipped and said nothing! s/he does not need to know I am selling on SR, loose lips sink ships!

I am just waiting for him/her to show up and tell me about the great new dealer s/he found.

Based on what you've said already, I think you have pretty-much covered all the bases.  The only thing I can suggest is starting off completely fresh, with new accounts, new PGP keys, new email addresses.

Guru

Agree, it is easy enough to change all your stuff our. May have to rebuild a rep but at least it cuts ties and makes it harder to trace you.

Lol, my First SR deal was from my cousin's husband. He's a vendor on BMR and UMB. He's the one who showed me this lucious land of Onions and Silky Roads
