To cut a long story short, I am moving some operations local and preferably need to communicate at times speaking aloud doesn't adequately fit. Is there any current encryption methods I could use for texting. PGP is too long to incorporate into texts and whilst there are some "encryption" apps on the android market, I am looking for something which can send through text and be decrypted by text in a similar fashion to PGP without the extensively long messages.
Phil Zimmermann, the original author of PGP, is launching a new service to provide email, text/message, VoIP and voice (mobile/cell) encryption for Android and iOS. It's called Silent Circle and it might help, depending on how much of it depends on all the other parties having the same service.
Is there anything on the market which encrypts the entire device and messages? Price isn't an issue. But it should be completely secured even if seized and if possible, replicate truecrypt's method of hidden volumes so "clean" texts would appear with password A and otherwise will appear with password B.
I'm not sure about encrypting the entire device, especially in the manner TrueCrypt does. I also haven't looked at Limetless' offerings, but if it is hardware based encryption then it may fit the bill.
If a phone like that isn't an option, then a secure server somewhere that provides all the secured and encrypted communicatios options that you access remotely (via SSH or VPN) from your Android phone might be a reasonable work around. In that case stored communication would be on the server and all your phone needs to have is the client to access it remotely.

PRZ also developed an implementation of the ZRTP protocol for secure voice calls, called Zfone.
They're good links, but it should be mentioned that Zfone has been effectively abbandoned. PRZ now recommends people rely on other implementations of ZRTP for VoIP encryption.
Personally I think that's a shame because it appeared to work well in all my tests and work with numerous other clients.
It should be noted that Silent Circle is actually PRZ's third foray into encrypted calls. Back in the '90s he released a little known program called PGPfone to encrypt voice calls, mainly on the landline. PGPfone would be installed on a computer with a modem and a call would be made from a phone through that, to another system configured the same way to achieve an end-to-end encrypted call.
I'm not aware of anything that encrypt the whole device either, but I'm far from expert on phones, as I refuse to carry one.
Smartphones these days are essentially just computers with custom operating systems. It's theoretically possible to design one which uses full disk encryption, but to my knowledge no one has done it yet. Not in the commercial market at any rate.

Go sit in the public gallery during a large drug trial and youll very quickly be put of using your mobile for anything illegal ! Do it face to face whenever you can.............

Doesn't Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) offer full disk encryption?

Doesn't Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) offer full disk encryption?
Yes it does. Although I have been having a hard time getting it to work on my phone. I left it encrypting overnight for 8hrs and it still never finished. It appears certain hardware manufacturers are having issues with the FDE builtin to ICS. If you go to the xda forums you'll see several threads about failed FDE.

Textsecure is good. It replaces the android text app. It is based off OTR encryption, and has the ability to store messages in an encrypted folder. They also have a version to encrypt voice on android as well.

Ive used textsecure on my Android phone i use to own before and that works perfectly for texting, Also thanks for some of the information some of you have posted its very useful, i myself now stick to old mobile phones as from what ive been told before you cant get your phone calls tapped into or is this incorrect? But with texting its obviously still a problem was looking into Gold secure on a Nokia has any used this before?
