These guys (Yoda, Agent, Nightcrawler, others) who took the time to respond to your canvassing are absolute authorities when it comes to topics of this nature. You asked for their analysis and they gave it. While it may be disappointing that this potentially convenient tool is likely compromised, it is likely compromised.

Forget it and move on unless you like wearing handcuffs, and you can take that to the bank.

There are many thousands of users and a very, very small percentage of them have this bug. It is on the list, the admins are aware. In the mean time if you would like to make a purchase I don't suggest sending any more BTC into an account with a negative balance - instead, create a new account and try a test deposit.

FYI I moved it, but to bug reports as this is clearly a bug and not a CS issue. It will receive more visibility here. I do want to let you know the admins are aware of this bug and it is on the list of things to fix.

Was reading in PACER the other day some random US federal cases in which wiretaps were used against cellular phones. Once the order is issued and the service provider complies, all text messages and transcripts/recordings of phone calls are made available to the po po.

I don't know the significance of the beep, but if you have reason to believe you are under investigation and have been wiretapped, you need to acquire a handful of burners.
