Title: Need to confirm potential buyer - Username: JonMurphy
Post by: trustyourself on October 25, 2011, 05:08 am
Greetings SR Community,

I am a new vendor to the SR.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this post.

Since opening my account, I've received many requests for samples from prospective buyers.

Being new to this market, a lot of what I am experiencing is new to me. I am trying to be as cautious as possible, because my risk as a seller is higher since I am located domestically.

I have corresponded and agreed to all sample requests. However, I would like to confirm the legitimacy of some of the people requesting samples from me. I am not able to see their purchase history since they have not yet made a purchase but are instead asking for a sample.

Are there presently any sellers who have done business with a: JonMurphy

Kindly let me know asap. I will also have more users that I would like to verify prior to sending them samples.

Thank you.

Strange they'd expect *free* samples.  I always figure a new seller should sell small quantities at a fair price, until they get the reputation where they can sell larger quantities.  I think it's kind of funny when a vendor will have Heroin, and some newbie will want a free sample.  I'd just charge those interested a smaller figure, so as to avoid scam artists, who have no interest in actually purchasing product...

Hello Phubaiblues,

Thank you for your response.

I noticed that a few of the people requesting samples were veterans of the community, and that by offering samples would be a positive way in which to start off on the right foot.

There are some people asking for samples that I suspect are scammers. The majority of people that have requested samples will receive them. However, there are a small handful of people I am wary about and will need confirmation that they have a purchasing history from other vendors.

Thank you.

I agree with phubai here. He's certainly a veteran and I have at least been around the block. I wouldn't ever expect a free sample. I'd expect you to offer small quantities at a fair price.

Anything else is like payola.

I'm not totally sure on this one.  In H sales I would have considered it funny, if someone had even suggsted it.  Probably a lot like the streets, where H sellers--and buyers, I guess--tend to be harder and less trusting, and it would just be a typical joke to ask for a free sample, while pot people tend to be more decent and it's kind of a 'trusting' sort of thing, where you wouldn't buy without smoking a joint.

I know if you are new seller, and they are buyers who've been here a while, and are reluctant to leave their sellers, maybe a free sample would make sense...it's just because the nature of SR is that you know there are scammers, and since we don't have a buyer's fee, I tend to think that now they are on this side of the equation: scam artists on sellers side would be new sellers trying to go outside of escrow.

In any case, best wishes, hopefully you'll get some traction, and then the buyer's comments will encourage others to participate.

Greetings,

Would like to point out that Peopleb4profits is JonMurphy

JonMurphy confirmed his forum username to be Capital Gains.

I was informed by another member that Capital Gains is Peopleb4Profits.

He contacted me very early on and tried very hard to gain my trust by offering suggestions.

My spidey senses went off after our his third response.

Not only did he request a sample from me, but suggested that I go to Pharmville to make a purchase to learn about other sellers shipping strategies.

This guy is obviously a scammer, but he might be LEO looking to stir up trouble and bust sellers.

I would recommend all sellers be very cautious.

Capital Gains and PB4P is the same person and this is a perfect example.
trustyourself can we change the name of your sticky thread to suspicious buyers, instead of LEO warning?

Samples to buyers with zero feedback would be a waste I think. Sample out to people who buy a lot and post a lot and they can spread the word of your good stuff to others. Like the humble bumble bee who goes about his routine of pollinating the flowers while sampling the free honey  :P

So, you have the scammers address?

Greetings,

I most certainly do.

Should I submit the address to the admins or post it here in public?

Please let me know what is best.

FYI - he is located in Inverness, Florida

I just need the confirmation from an admin or veteran to post the full address live.

Thank you.

Wow.

I think it should be a banning offense for a vendor to even mention a clients name, or any identifying information at all. If a client wants to volunteer their experience with a vendor, then by all means the vendor can then respond.

A vendor should NEVER out an information, not even the handle of a client.

When this thread started I considered making this post stating my feelings on the matter.

Now it has escalated to the point where a city location has been posted.

I would suggest that the moderation team should edit out that identifying information immediately.

You realize that the person who's city location was revealed has scammed number of people on SR of hundreds if not thousands of dollars? That he later came here to taunt people he ripped off and to threaten Silk Road personally?

I guess moral stand in this situation kind of reveals your alignment in D&D games.

I always pick chaotic good.

Vendors should never be allowed to reveal any information about clients location or identity - online or otherwise - or products purchased / discussed for purchase, under any circumstances.

Period.

Clients should never be allowed to reveal any information about vendors location or identity, including shipping postal region origin and return address used, under any circumstances.

Period.

Posting such information is effectively handing that same information over to law enforcement.

Period.

It seems pretty black and white to me.

Don't really see where there is any moral dilemma here whatsoever.

Lawful Good. Or someone from Inverness, Florida.

Anyway, I just had some fine weed and just need to amuse myself. Imagine that you have a little daughter, and she got raped and brutally murdered. Vendor on SR has name and address of the person who did it . You would say "Oh, OK, nevermind. Vendors should never be allowed to reveal any information about clients location or identity - online or otherwise - or products purchased / discussed for purchase, under any circumstances." ?
