Title: browser safety

Is it safe to use/purchase off silk road while i have chrome/ff/ie open on the same computer/home network?

yes, all other browsers are fine to be open at the same time. the only thing i can think of that that compromises the tor browser security is if you are downloading torrents at the same time

Using Tor while accessing the clearnet through another browser is a bad idea, especially if it involves logging in to email, facebook ... .

Using Tor while accessing the clearnet through another browser is a bad idea, especially if it involves logging in to email, facebook ... .

The danger is mostly human error, not really a technical flaw of the system or something.  If you forget what browser you're currently in and accidentally log in to a social network site... well... that's bad, basically.

yes, correct. i was thinking of software running at the same time as tor, not doing stuff in a tor browser.

Is it safe to be downloading torrents and running TOR while connected to a VPN before hand?

You can d/l torrents at the same time, just don't download them *through* Tor :)
