Title: In case the road ever goes down back up vendor email list
Post by: Chaosforpeace on April 25, 2013, 09:31 pm
My suggestion is the following:
Every existing vendor and new vendor that registers must submit their tormail along with a short description of what they sell to DPR. If the road ever goes down a website will be posted with all of the emails and descriptions copy and pasted.

Or every member submits their tormail and if the road goes down everyone receives an email with the list.

What does everyone think?

I second it. But will DPR even bother to read this, much less implement it? He's gonna have his hands (brain, heart, etc.) full for the foreseeable future with these attacks, if that's what they are. They may keep coming, fast and furious.

Contrary to popular belief DPR does see the most popular items of this section. If this thread gets over 5 pages of support then he will notice.

It would require too much oversight.  Silk Road is already understaffed as it is, there just isn't the time or manpower to devote to this.  It would cut down a tiny bit on the scamming though, if nothing else, but honestly guys: that's why vendors are supposed to put their real tormail address in their public keys.  I don't know about anybody else, but my gpg keychain is gonna be my savior if SR goes down -- before everyone runs to the next one, anyway.

That is pretty much what the Altantis verified vendors program is about, isn't it?

I'm going to compile a list of most of the psychedelic vendors once the road is back up with there tormail/torchat ect theres no reason why we as a community can't compile this info

Personally i think theres a need for redundancy among vendors i would love if every vendor would have a torchat/mail a BMR and Atlantis account, I know we all love the road but centralized systems can be very vulnerable

i think we should have categories...

REPUTABLE DRUG VENDORS:                    REPUTABLE SERVICE VENDORS:         etc...

they would have to have sold for longer than 1 year and kept a consistent percentage to stay on that list... almost like a TOP 10 script but multiple scripts

I agree with the idea that some kind hearted soul should go around and collect all of the emails of the 300+ transaction vendors and release it for all.
It would be a great kindness to the users of the road.

I'd do it, but the problem is with that firstly maintaining it as it could easily get outdated quickly - but also security because say if I was to collect it, what is to stop me altering an e-mail address to one I own then posing as the vendor? One solution is to ask the vendor to mail me his e-mail address signed by his PGP key and they could be collated and in small groups say 10 e-mail per list have 2-3 senior forum members validate it and also sign it to say they've check the signature is valid. Not foolproof, but offers a better degree of security I imagine.

I tried to start one a while ago listing the products, PGP key etc of each vendor, but there was no interest in it so decided to stop maintaining it.
