Title: BTC Drained from my Account
Post by: isaacn16 on April 06, 2013, 06:12 pm
Hi everyone

I went away on vacation to visit my grandmother this past week and I came back excited with the popularity and rise in Bitcoin's fame. Just this morning I logged into my account and saw that my BTC are missing. March 28th 1:32pm UTC they were taken out of my account. I have never been phished - I always recopy the link from Reddit before I log on. Plus I would never give out my PIN. I know it's not a part of logging in.

I was wondering what can be done to help my situation. I was planning on selling the BTC to help pay for the trip I was just on, plus I've been waiting to buy something else from SR.

Thanks for your help
Isaac

did you have a backup wallet on your account that they may have been sent to?

You'll need to get in touch with SR Support on the main site so they can look into it for you.

Nope, didn't even realize having a backup wallet was a possibility until I was searching through the different account settings today. I don't think that was a function when I first joined Silk Road about two years ago.

I originally just transferred the BTC from VirWox to SR and figured they would be safe...  :-\

I have contacted SR Support but 17 hours later and no response.

That's pretty strange. Have you ever signed into the road using your pin number? If so you could have been phished and someone may have just moved that coin to their own wallet.

No never! I am smarter than that I would never 'log in' with my PIN. That's just stupid.

SR Support replied and only told me the exact address the BTC were moved to: 16AzeTQE8YKMDMgLJVzCCMZKnxsZVCdJyd

Fuck this I need my BTC back.... The lack of help is really bugging me.

That means someone logged into your account and moved the coins elsewhere ... which implies that they had access to your password and your PIN.  There's not much SR Support can do in this situation - those kinds of transfers aren't reversible.  :(

My only other thought is that someone put a key-logger on your computer and got the info that way.

To me it sounds like somebody you know took them.  There really isn't anything SR can do.  If they believed every person who came along saying that they didn't transfer their money out of their account and replaced all of the coins they were asked to, they'd be broke and there would no longer be a Silk Road.

I'm afraid the posters above are correct, if the coins were transferred out some if not you has gained access to your account with your log in pass phrase and pin number. All I can suggest if you are sure that you didn't pass on your details somehow is your computer may have been compromised in some way.

Sorry mate, that's about as much help as anyone is going to be able to offer you  :(
