Title: I think SR had a glitch and accidently misplaced 100 BTC of mine. Any thoughts?
Post by: Heteroplasmy on January 14, 2013, 04:21 am
Hello SR members, I just wanted to let you all know to be careful transferring money fron one account to another... I keep 2 accounts, one account to store BTC on and the other to buy stuff on... Anyways I was transferring BTC from my BTC storage account to my buyer account and my internet connection froze up, so I refreshed and then looked at my account history of my BTC storage account.... It says that the 100 BTC has successfully been transferred to my buyer account... When I check the account history of my buyer account, it shows that no transactions have been made to that account. I am out over $1,400.00 as of right now and all I was doing was transferring money from my BTC storage account to my BTC buyer account.

SR ADMIN, SR SUPPORT, SR STAFF. Please help me out! I have e-mailed SR Support from both accounts... PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU TO HELP ME GET MY MONEY BACK... I can't afford to lose $1,400.00. I am about ready to cry honestly...

First of all, why in the world are you using a SR account to store your BTC? Really?
Make a secure wallet on a USB drive, what do you think will happen to your BTC when SR shuts down?
Input your backup BTC address in the settings tab on Silk Road.

Secondly, I doubt SR's system "stole" your btc. It takes a good hour or two for bitcoins to be withdrawn, deposited, etc.
Just give it a good day and you'll see your coins. Your statement seems bogus anyways....

Good luck.

If not. Bummer dude.
Thats a lot of moolah, and shitty timing.

My statement seems bogus? I'm not an idiot... I have been a member here for 10 months, I have spent over $11,000.00, I have a 0.15% refund rate and a 0% auto-finalize rate. I just never learned how to use Mt. Gox or USB wallets or anything like that. In that regard it would be my fault if SR ever went down... The point, however, is that SR is NOT down... Let me explain what I'm looking at on my screen... On my BTC storage account, it shows that I transferred 100 BTC to my buyer account. On my buyer account history it doesn't even show that any BTC were transferred from my BTC storage account. It's basically like the two account historys don't match up.

Please fellas, give me some moral support. I am literally about to cry... And can someone please help me figure out a USB BTC wallet? I've been here for quite sometime, but I always get my BTC from Sugar Mama or Blue Sky Traders....

Can anyone shed any light on what may have just happened... I am going insane... $1,400.00+ dollars is over a month's pay for me.... I know I don't make much money, but its the truth... I saved up so much money so that I could buy some goodies on here and my money was instantly gone after my internet timed out and I refreshed the page... Please people help me... I am so worried right now...

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "Input your backup BTC address in the settings tab on Silk Road". What do you mean by that? Sorry for the newb BTC questions... I probably should have figured out how BTC works instead of taking the easy way out and just buying my BTC from people like BTC Pal, Sugar Mama, and Blue Sky Traders...

What should I make my backup BTC address? I don't know what I am doing... I don't know what I should make the address..

What are you talking about if you don't mind me asking? If what "thing" isn't registered on the network what stays where it's at? What is a handshake system and how does this pertain to me? I'm so sad right now fellas... I hope SR Support sees what happens and can reimburse my BTC. I didn't spend them on anything that's for sure... I am just so bummed out right now... I feel like the pit of my stomach just fell out of my ass and the anxiety and angst I am feeling is God aweful...

What should I make my backup BTC address? I don't know what I am doing... I don't know what I should make the address..
1. Click "Account" on Silk Road.
2. Click "Settings" to the right.
3. Insert your backup bitcoin address in case SR shuts down.

How can you not know to secure your wallet & remain anonymous when you've spent over 11 grands on the deep web!? Get your shit together before you
go out and use your money like that man! Look up on the forums here or HackBB on how to secure a bitcoin wallet.

Also, when did you do the transaction? As in, How long has it been since the coins left your first account? If it hasn't been a day or even a couple hours,
you shouldn't really worry as the coins are probably on it's way....

Coins don't just disappear. If one accounts correctly shows the transaction going into your other account, it will happen. It may just take some time.

sorry about my obfuscating structure. i need to work on that.

basically what he said. Coins dont just go poof.
theres "handshake" security features to prevent such things. In order for you to see the "Coins sent" message. Your handshake was succesfull and its just gonna be awhile. Take a xan bar, or something. You're stressing me out, and its not even my money.

Coins can take up to four hours to show up.  You could try checking the blockchain for the transaction.

How do I check the blockchain for the transaction? Sorry I am a complete BTC newb even though I've been here for longer than most people who post on the forums... lol

Coins sent between SR accounts exist in a private database operated by SR. There are no transactions or bitcoin addresses to check in the block chain.

The OP needs to chill a bit and wait for a response from SR admin before launching into claims that SR "stole" his coins. His connection froze up, so maybe it made the transfer request go glitchy. If the sending account says it was sent to the receiving account (one of the strangest "cloaking" ideas I've heard so far here), then the admin will obviously see this and fix it.

So your saying its SR systems fault......  Because YOUR computer froze up..... Its good your somewhat asking for their HELP and not blaming them cause than you could wave goodbye to those coins....

The system doesnt "steal" coins, your 100btc are NOT special. Wait for them to get back to you and hopefully they help you out, but not if you say THEIR system STOLE when it was YOUR computer.

I would like to retract my former statement and re-word it... What I meant was that at the time it appeared that SR's system glitched, and subsequently "stole" my BTC... I love SR and its staff and how they conduct business, I was just extremely anxious, paranoid, scared, and worried all at the same time when I first posted that. I love you SR and I know that you will help me figure this situation out. :)

I apologize, sir... I apologize to all of SR for my comments... I'd like to see any one of you lose over 100 BTC and see your initial reactions... I was overcome with emotion and I apologize... I honestly would love for someone to sit down with me or link me to how to properly set up my SR account to where I don't have problems like this... I need to learn how to make a backup BTC address, I need to learn how to make USB BTC WALLET, I need to learn how to purchase my own BTC from Mt. Gox, I need to to learn how to use instalwallets that I hear people talking about all of the time...

SR STAFF I apologize for being overly emotional earlier... I don't make much money... I am a struggling low tier fighter (boxing) and work at an information data entry job by day... I can't afford to lose $1,400.00 OUT OF THIN AIR... That's almost a whole months salary sadly to say...

Well know you sound like total gentleman i know your momma raised you to be.
I think the "new" generation is so used to "instant" access to things that waiting an hour for a confirmation that their coins went to their destination, is just mind boggling to them. And produces this pedestrian albeit funny: "STOLE, I SAID THEY STOLE MY MONEY!"
kinda shinanigans.
Glad u got your money back. Dude, your either sniffing bars wrong or not enough.

Now Vendors are (or should) be reluctant to deal with you, if your gonna make a stink about waiting two hours for your coins.

No, I actually didn't get my coins back yet, if you'd read my posts I just apologized and said that I trust that SR will figure this situation out and help me get my more than 100+ BTC back....

Actually, re-read my posts, I've spent $11,000 in 10 months of being here... I finalize early most of the time and within 1-2 hours if I don't finalize early... I have a 0.15% refund rate and a 0% auto-finalize rate, sir... My one refund which raised my 0% refund rate to a 0.15% refund rate was when Pfandleiher was having all of his problems before he retired and I didn't get a 5 gram order of Molly. Out of 10 months that is my only hiccup and now you are going to patronize me for getting a little too emotional when my 100+ BTC suddenly disappeared?

Please, sir... you need to relax... I have accepted that I am just going to have to wait this out and I have apologized profusely...

Like I said earlier, I would love to: learn how to make a backup BTC address, I need to learn how to make USB BTC WALLET, I need to learn how to purchase my own BTC from Mt. Gox, I need to to learn how to use instalwallets.

LOL, nah dude. I mean, this is a shitty experience. SR staff will have it fixed in two days, max. Remember, its sunday in most of the world. And while i dont pretend to know much about DPR or his staffs religious practices. Most people take today off. As should you, this whole website and community is a gift, and should be treated with respect and grace.
Im sure your coins are fine. A watched pot never boils.

You'd got much further if you would of messaged the staff in private. Now that you made all this noise. They might take their sweet time(though, 6 hours isnt much time in the real world. I know in internet centric people, everything is instant)

Nobody likes to be called thieves. Even thieves. (not inferring that they're thieves, its just not a nice thing to do.)

If the sending account says it was sent to the receiving account (one of the strangest "cloaking" ideas I've heard so far here), then the admin will obviously see this and fix it.

Xanax. Its literally, a chill pill.

God bless its little white snickers bar'd heart.

Now Vendors are (or should) be reluctant to deal with you, if your gonna make a stink about waiting two hours for your coins.

Actually sir, I have spent over $11,000.00 in the past 10 months that I've been on SR and I always either finalize EARLY or within 1-2 hours of receiving the product. Vendors love dealing with me because I make them a lot of money. Also the fact that I have a 0.15% refund rate and a 0% auto-finalize rate helps things as well... I am very polite and get along with all of vendors that I deal with along the Road. Like I said earlier, I got a litle to emotional and I apologize... You should take a Xanax, it's literally a chill pill.

Coins can take up to four hours to show up.  You could try checking the blockchain for the transaction.

Coins sent between SR accounts exist in a private database operated by SR. There are no transactions or bitcoin addresses to check in the block chain.

Feel free to ask here for help with anyof these things. There are some very very savvy people on these boards. They kinda have to be.
Though, i feel your pain.

My usual philosophy is, if i cant afford for it to be lost to customs or dissapear into thin air. I dont put it on the road.
Someone once said, if you cant afford to buy a scale, dont buy drugs, buy food.

Welcome, i hope your travels on the road are more fruitful.

Do you think that my 100+ BTC are gone forever now? Is that why you said that you hope that my travels on the road are more fruitful, because my money is lost? Sorry I just got suddenly very worried again lol.... :(

Actually, the first thing I did was take screenshots of my buyer account history and my BTC storage account history and sent them a message explaining what happened.. I then came on here a little over emotional I'll admit at the time and just wanted more instant feedback from the community. But I e-mailed them first from both Accounts so they definitely know it was me.

As far as my thieves comments go... I was very respectful in my messages to them and I publicly apologized I think 4 times now for my overly dramatic behavior earlier in the midst of all of it happening at that moment...

Woow! This is a bit mad, I would be pissed off too..........but............I highly doubt your coins have gone for ever they will turn up.

I need to learn how to get a back up btc address too, do I have to create it then save it to USB? some one please explain?

Oh and OP sorry for your loss but dont cry it will only make things worse if you do loose them which is unlikely take it on the chin like a man learn and move on dont use this as an excuse to go off the rails again its just not worth it.

Sending you happy vibes on this sad day :)

I'm starting to get the feeling that my coins will turn up... At least I'm praying so... I took a screenshot of both account histories from both my buyer account and my BTC storage account showing that I did infact send 100 BTC to my buyer account, but that my buyer account history shows that it never received the 100 BTC. My browser crashed basically right after I pressed send so I refreshed the page and this is the result... I won't stop worrying until I have my BTC though... I worked hard for that money!

Good luck.

I have screenshots of my account histories of both of my accounts. My buyer account doesn't say that it has received my 100 BTC, yet my BTC storage account says that it sent the 100 BTC to my buyer account... Does transferring coins between two accounts take more than a few hours usually?

Generally no but in some circumstances delays happen, give SR support a chance to respond before claiming the system 'stole' your coins, that's more than a little innaccurate but I can appreciate how stressful it must be to have something like that happen. You will get mixed responses on here that will probably just stress you out even more, best to wait until you have had contact with support.

Hope it works out ok.

THERE IS ZERO FUCKING CHANCE your coins are stolen or the SR system fucked you. There is also ZERO reason to make this thread with that title and OP.

I have had where btc is sent out of my account and does not show up in another account for up to an hour or so. It is really rare. And it seems this happened to you. Also we all understand that when this happened that you hit the panic button and you have apologized for the words you used in your OP and title.

Why not change those words and fix your wrong? As what you originally said DID NOT HAPPEN.

You see the damage your message can create as people will go off om there conspiracy theory's and such. It seems like that would be the right thing to do...no?

You might really want to consider editing the thread title.  SR didn't steal your BTC - your BTC aren't lost.  Give SR Support some time to look into the issue before jumping to the conclusion that the bitcoins were stolen.  In the meantime, think of editing the title of the thread.

I have already apologized numerous times during this thread and I just forgot to change the title accordingly. I am sorry to all of the SR Staff, I was overely emotional when I made this post and should have kept a clearer head... It was just difficult seeing as how much money I "lost". I will change my thread title for sure. Sorry to anyone I offended, that was not my intention at all. I was just looking for moral support. Sorry that I made the thread title when I was being irrational. I apologize.

A bit strange story....you said you make $1400 a month and spend 11000 the last 10 months (1100 a month). That will leave you with 300 a month for rent, food etc.
Like I said....bit strange. But, maybe you live in Thailand, its very cheap living there :-)

"Do you guys think I will get my coin back?"

You will 100% get your coin back. Just realize because of the time it is now there is a chance there is no one available to take care of it on SR.

Also realize that these forums have nothing to do with Silk Road. The moderators can do nothing on the main site and all you can do is contact SR support on the site. I am sure you have done that.  SR and DPR are not in business to fraud ANYONE. This is simply a computer malfunction and it will get fixed. You will have your btc back before it is time to place an order  :)

Yes you can do that. You can also do what you have been doing. This is a fluke. Though there will be a lot of people telling you to not keep all your eggs in one basket and that if something happened to SR then you would lose your coins but if you stored them in an instant wallet that would not happen.

Then someone will tell you if your instaallet gets hacked you will lose whatever coins you have in there! You are fine either way you choose. As you said you dont have much money so it is not like your coins sit in the account long.

On a side note it is nice to hear you spend 90% of your earnings on Silk Road :)  You do not owe anyone an apology. 99.9% of people in here would do the same thing you did. It is totally understandable and you have since fixed the post. So though I know you have a really shitty feeling in your stomach... rest assured that you will get all your coins back 100%.

Once thing to make sure...make sure you in fact sent the coins to your correct account. Check the spelling in case you have and i and you put L or anything like that. Just to make sure. I know this because I have sent 900 coins..not dollars...coins to the wrong account. And the person that I did that too..sent me a message.... 5 min after I sent them one....telling them I just sent them 12 thousand dollars... They said are you sure you don't want me to keep it? HA HA I just sent them back to you. That looked pretty sweet in my account :)

So I got EXTREMELY lucky that I have great customers and he was honest. So I have been there with that empty stomach feeling. And the feeling I had when the coins came back is that same feeling you get when you left the girls house the first time you banged her and you are looking in your rear view mirror and smiling. You will know what it feels like soon. But check that you sent them to your correct account.

Do you should use a client wallet Instead of an online wallet.

The client app stays on your computer and shows more information in the can allow you to set the rate that you pay for Tranaction fee.

It sounds like you made a mistake with the transaction fee which could be sent to any amount.
It could be a simple typo Grazing the keyboard.

The standalone application on your computer doesn't do that.  It's very deep into the preferences.

I would never use online wallet unless it's just to roll the coins.

I didn't make any typo... I have the screenshots proving exactly what happened in my account history for both accounts. I know it's bad, but the only BTC wallet I use is the one on SR.

I've heard of vendors not receiving BTC. The order from the buyer is there, in their account history, but the BTC don't show up. Probably just a bug.

I've heard of vendors not receiving BTC. The order from the buyer is there, in their account history, but the BTC don't show up. Probably just a bug.

astor's point seems to have been... well not so much overlooked as not taken to be as factual a statement as it should have been.  When you transfer coins into your SR wallet, they bounce right off that bitcoin address and go to another address (where they probably again bounce, but I never bothered looking that far).  It's part of the rudimentary SR coin tumbling system.  The coins get credited to your account once received at the address for you to deposit coins, but from that point on it's all SR and their unique database.  The coins aren't actually at your account address.  Only SR records that they are.  This begs the question... when you send coins to another member, where the fuck do they come from?  I don't really know that part, but I assume they're deducted from the sending account and simply added to the recipient's account without ever dealing with actual bitcoins or bitcoin transactions.  I've never seen it take more than literally 10-20 seconds, myself... but I've never transferred $1000 worth of BTC.  There may be safeguards in place -- anything over a specific amount has to be reviewed and okayed or something.

Why?  Because otherwise if there is a bug that somebody finds one day, they could transfer coins all over the place that they don't really have.  Then when you withdraw them, one of the bitcoin addresses owned by SR sends them to the address of your choice.  You see the disconnect here?  If SR's database isn't *perfect*, if there's even a single bug, it could be used to steal literally everyone's bitcoins.  All of them.  Everything in escrow, everything from sellers that haven't cashed out yet, literally everything.

The people who run Silk Road have shown themselves to be good guys that you can basically rely on time and time again.  But there aren't many of them.  It's hard to find people you can trust with these sorts of operations.  They deserve a little more patience than they get, frankly.  But what I'm saying is that we WANT it to take extra time for anyhthing more than like, 100 bucks.

Because if it didn't... well, that would be bad and possibly just another way for someone to steal ALL our money.  Ours and DPRs.  Besides, every system has bugs.  Theirs does too.  That's why they correct failed things manually when it's necessary.  Don't worry about it, you'll get your coins.  Just give them a reasonable amount of time.  There's a whole lot of interconnected systems working seamlessly behind the scenes here, you know.

I'm not really sure what's going on here but a few months back when SR was going on and offline every few minutes I had trouble getting btc into my account and had to message support. They said it had to be "forced through", maybe the same thing is going on here.

Would you like me to send you screenshots of my account history from both accounts? Why do you need to be a jerk about this? I am still very concerned about my money... It still has YET to show up and I am out over 100 BTC... I hope this happens to you so people can give you shit about it. Jerk...

HAHA I was reading this whole thing thinking OP is a troll! RX king aluded to it on the last page, then black83 did so again pointing out the discrepancy that he'd only have $300 a month for food, rent, other expenses, and 1 more reason out of a multitude, He said that $1400 was ALMOST an entire months income, then he said he didn't make much MORE than that per month...

TROLLL!!!!!

Do you think I will get my money back?

Thanks for being an asshole and not knowing the whole story.. Not that I have to prove anything to you people, but I am a college student riding on a full ride scholarship... I also take out loans... I didn't want to get specific with my personal living situations, just figure out what went wrong with my BTC transfer... Everyone here has to be a smart ass though even though that obviously isn't the case... As I doubt anyone commenting has a full ride scholarship.....

I just want my 100 BTC BACK!!

Do you think I will get my money back?

I'm not guaranteeing anything, but the vendors that I mentioned got their coins eventually.

How could this happen? OMG...

To the haters...I'm not lying guys if I knew how to post pictures I would post you both account histories so you could see exactly what went down... Jesus... I hope one of you gets 100 BTC taken from you and I will laugh my ass off at you for being so cynical to me about it..

So now I'm supposed to figure out your problem..? Who's the asshole here?

Everyone here has to be a smart ass though even though that obviously isn't the case... As I doubt anyone commenting has a full ride scholarship.....

Better to be a smart ass then a dumb ass as my father always said.  Supposing you might be telling some modicum of the truth: Now you're being directly insulting while trying to be clever?  You're not some special person although you think you are.  I'll bet you don't even have a functioning knowledge of organic chemistry.  If you did, you'd be making your own drugs instead of complaining about YOUR hardware failure and how it's everyone else's fault.

Getting back to reality, I don't think anyone here is dumb enough to jump into your ploy to gain information about their schooling career.  That would be info LE would use to narrow down peoples identities.

If you were serious about this problem, you wouldn't go posting it public to everyone.
Unless your trying to receive attention to a "claim" to get free coins, which won't happen.
If I had your problem, I would messaged SR resolution team or DPR PERSONALLY & try to resolute this problem before posting such a stupid post
that can create false positives & conspiracy. I think the OP is a troll, and/or LE.

And, YOUR PHOTO DOES NOT PROVE ANYTHING! You really think your photo is the key factor in you receiving your coins?
I can easily photoshop a transaction & say I did not get XX coins. But I'd love to take a look, message me the photo OP.

FUCK all the wallet programs in the world. All you need is the original Bitcoin wallet from bitcoin.org and just make sure you backup your wallet.dat file. That's it. All these other programs and online bullshit is crap. While I have a block chain account and online wallets, I'll NEVER keep anything in them. As long as my wallet.dat file is on my RAID server at home and backed up to multiple places to where I'll never lose it I'll be safe no matter what. Don't install anything else, it just gets to much of a pain in the ass after that. Want to know where your money went? Do a search on blockchain and find out. It's all there for everyone to see.

I don't have to prove myself to you... You just feel like picking on someone today and I'm the butt of the joke for some reason... I don't know how to message DPR personally and I have already messaged SR Support. If there is anyone else I can message that can help me I am open to suggestions... Any SR Support Staff member who can see both of my account histories knows that I didn't photoshop anything to try and get free coins. Where do you come up with this stuff?

I didn't come on this board to stir up trouble, I came here to get extra opinions on what I can do to help get my BTC back.... not get made fun of and picked on... I don't get why everyone has started picking on me?

They've disabled deposits and withdrawals until they can fix the problem.

Praise the Lord, I am actually crying tears of joy right now... Seriously... This really affected me in a very negative way. People were chastising me for no good reason and it made my whole day horrible.. I am glad that other people are having similar problems. Thanks for posting that Scout and Astor.. Glad to see you guys don't find glory in someone else's anguish.

Of course not!  I would be panicking too if I thought I lost my bitcoins.  Just hang tight and keep being patient - SR Support and DPR will fix the issue and I'm sure they'll take good care of you.

Good luck.

I hope you feel good about yourself for picking on someone for no good reason... Have a nice day

TC I fully sympathize with your plight as I am in a similar boat myself although of course I feel quite reassured now ever since DPR posted the update on the situation.  I gave you +1 karma to try to balance things out, unfortunately there are many people here who will pounce all over you if you make a thread warning people about some aspect of the site, calling you a conspiracy theorist or whatever.  It's kind of odd as you figure people should be thankful you're warning them (I appreciate warnings myself if they can save me time and hassle) but whatever, it is what it is.  Hope you and me both get our money back soon.

If this is in fact legitimate, I do sincerely apologize.

I feel I had valid reasons for my previous posts, but that doesn't mean I was right or that I should have been rude about it.

I hope you can forgive me and you get your coins back.
