Hypothetically speaking, you're in a city 150 miles from your home, you have the clothes on your back, and a bag of coke in your pocket. You have no phone. No passport. No ID of any kind. You have no identifying tattoos, or birthmarks, and your fingerprints/DNA/photographs aren't on any databases.
Say you're arrested for the coke, what would happen if you just stayed totally silent? Didn't tell them your name, address, anything. Literally said nothing at all.
I know here in the UK they can only hold you for 24 hours before they either have to charge you or let you go. But they can't charge you without a name.
What would they actually do in this situation?

I seriously doubt that's the case. I have no doubt whatsoever that they'd charge you as "John Doe." If your name was later discovered, they'd probably update the records, but not a chance in Hell they'd just let you go.

I'd say they would hold you until they can identify you.
So youre actualy reason for being held is, until you are identified, once you are identified, you will be then charged for the coke.
