I've been hesitant to use the road out of paranoia, and now with it being on Fox I find myself slightly more paranoid than normal.
Am I just being a paranoid schmuck or is this a legitimate problem...

There's a difference between one of the three major news channels in America actually airing it, and "not hidden," though. I didn't realize it had been on Fox news. That sucks, quite frankly. It's going to turn up the heat on the DEA to shut it down. Whether they can/do or not is irrelevant, it's going to make them try harder, and that sucks.

Things are going to change a lot throughout this year. Looking at the massive difference between when I joined back in February and now, I wouldn't be surprised if Silkroad was a household name by this time next year. The question is, does this mean the powers that be will scramble like decapitated chickens while we enjoy a wider variety of competitively priced products? Or will we actually start seeing more sensible drug laws? Or worst of all, will they actually bring us down, and even more importantly, find a way to ensure that no copycat sites can pick up the torch?
Also can anyone provide some kind of proof that this fox news thing actually happened? Considering this account has 3 posts I'm just going to assume troll or psy-op for now.

While I agree that any exposure is bad exposure for SR, I'm not sure that this actually happened either. If it did, then yeah, it sucks, but believe it or not Fox News does not pull in the ratings it used to. I take solace in the fact that more and more Fox News viewers are dying from old age with each passing day, and with them their hate and fear of change.

On average, Cable News is experience a decline of viewership across the board. The general opinion is shifted towards distrust for large media networks as well. The percentages are small but the trend is extremely hopeful for our future. People just need to maintain EXTREME vigilance in protecting as much limitation of censorship on the Internet as possible. If even one SOPA passes; then we've failed.

OP is probably talking about John Stossels peice on fox about BTC and SR the other day. It was actually one of the better media reports IMO. Its much more fair than fox news is with most things thats for sure.

Of all the correspondents on FOX - Stossel was next in line behind Judge and Cavuto for me. Dude that didn't completely shit all over Ron Paul during the primary.
Edit: And thanks for digging up the link +1 -- Sure as shit they've got the SR opening page blasted on Fox Business (Luckily, the stupid and vocal population don't watch Fox Business - No chance to see Kim Kardashian's tits) but the chick from Reason magazine makes some KILLER arguments in favor of Bitcoin and using the SR. She gave me a full mind boner and a semi physical boner.

Wow, I have to say that was not what I expected in the slightest. I've never heard of Stossel before but he seems like a pretty reasonable guy, and anyone who shits on Chuck Schumer is alright in my book. I'm a pretty big fan of Reason magazine and that chick is wife material.

I don't have sauce on this unfortunately, I was at a friends house yesterday and I just heard a little piece of what was on there. Basically they were just labeling the road as some type of underground blackmarket that promotes the user/dealer lifestyle.
Although I have three posts, I'm not a troll. I just like to read more than I like to participate, alot of the people on here are extremely intelligent and what they have to say interests me.
I only ask this question because after a year or so of looking at prices and whatnot I'm preparing to make my first order.
And yeah, I guess you are all right. I'm paranoid. But just because your paranoid doesn't mean nobodies watching. or somebody... i forget how the saying goes.

I'm actually surprised the U.S government hasn't decided to end SR yet, it seems they always butt into everyone's business.. I hope it never happens though.

They've been investigating it for at least a year, if not longer. The Gawker piece is where I first heard about it and that came out in July 2011 [clearnet link- http://gawker.com/5805928/the-underground-website-where-you-can-buy-any-drug-imaginable ] although it's certainly possible they knew about it before then. I'm sure they're doing what they can to shut it down but what can they really do? TOR is secure, everyone is anonymous to the extent they cover their tracks, and although I'm not sure exactly how they host this site you can bet a lot of thought and planning went into it. DPR and the people who run it purposely don't share much info about the way it is run.

Media hype about Silk Road. To totally stop it they'd have to shut down the internet, which I don't see happening. The most they can do is try to catch individuals who make obvious mistakes and put themselves out there. Anything else is propaganda designed basically to send a message of 'we're gonna get you" but they really won't if your careful. Just breathe, count to ten, place an order, and enjoy it when it arrives.

i imagine the authorities only give half a shit about silk road. like, they'd bust the site if it was doable, but they got this shit running air tight. you gotta admit, this is one of the cleanest criminal rackets in history and the best part: no violence. that's what they're really concerned with...violence and dangerous cartels. i bet most LEOs are happy to see such a clandestine operation freeing up some of their time to fry bigger fish.
but who knows how a pig thinks.
what i do know is that this site was specifically intended to be an open market. if it wasn't an open market it wouldn't be the political statement that DPR is making. simple as that.
and as far as i can tell, it is currently not possible to bring the marketplace down without the higher ups making some seriously stupid moves....and i don't see that happening
