Please tell me I'm not the only one who can't sign in to SR. Did they limit sign-ins to vendors only again? I hope so because I know damn well I didn't change my log-in password.  >:( >:( >:(

Everyone's saying SR is back up and runnning but it is not for me!  My account had a couple transactions and all that and since the blackout i can not log in.  Now I know its not my computer or the road because I just made a new account on the same computer and its working perfectly.  I know that i did not change my password and really do not want to lose that account does anyone know why this is happening or have a similiar problem?

I think on 1 or 2 occasions recently, the SR onion link on Wikipedia was changed to a phishing site with a similar name. If that's where you get the address maybe you have your answer there?

Then yesterday from 12:00am EST til almost 4 :00pm i could not get on it just kept saying problems with login page or just sat there and did nothing at all.. I did what i had to do yesterday when it did work and left it alone til this morning now 8:30am it seems fine..

Ugh, just because you are unable to access the road for a couple hours does not mean it's a 'blackout' I'm sure there are times that DPR and his crew have to take the site down stealthily for reasons they can't openly discuss for security purposes.

Don't forget how many people there are out there that would love to take this site down and how much effort DPR has to put into keeping it running.

it is not so difficult....
There are a lot of people who have a sort of tunnel vision....wow SR, wonderful, so brave that they dare to do this, so much risk....ooh great SR god thank thank thankyou
First, when there would not be so much money involved SR would not even exist. The make millions!!
Making that kind of money or is by taking risks, or smart business. In this case probably both.
SR...okay but there are at least a couple more doing the same. Just take Black Marker Reloaded, Farmers Market.
Don't understand me wrong, I love SR.... have a lot of customers and log in every day at round 8am and stay there till bedtime..
The problem is that when you use this site specially as a vendor (the important part here !!) you need to have quality. Quality to be able to provide your customers the service SR !!! want you so much to give!!!
Of course, like I said before something can go wrong. A week no SR because of a serious reason...NO PROBLEM !!
But, just during the week so to speak it should work. One time not able to log in ....understandable two times....mnnn but F 30 !!! times is a bit odd don't you say.
You can ! change this but you need to invest. Sure SR is grown very fast...so ? Also mean you earned a lot !
When you earn a lot and want to keep growing you need to invest.
Don't come now with all the bla bla stories. If you don't invest it means that you don't give a shit, the junkies will buy even if it cost half a day to login...same as the vendors who want to make money
When you have enough you can sell it.
There was a rumor that it was already the case, no idea, don't care. Could be a reason for all this though.
Again, as a vendor I ask do something to improve this. Not doing so you are fucking us all with a big grin on your face !!!

Same here. I know I never changed my password, but it's acting like either I did, or the account is gone. I really hope my btc can at least be recovered. This is such bs.

sorry to be the one to point this out but, this sounds like two different problems entirely. There was a VERY recent fake login page going around and some people got fooled by it. You probably were two of those people, and whomever has your accounts is currently cracking your PINs. There have been no recent "blackouts" that I am aware of.  I'm always able to connect..... eventually. Often I find it helps to close tor and vidalia and restart it.... a few times

FUNBAGZ i think you are right i used the link to SR from wikipedia one day and the login screen was the same except it required my PIN??? I thought it was very odd but because of maintence did not worry about it too much until now.  Apart from taking the 15 dollars or so I had on SR are there any dangers of these hackers using that account?

Unless somebody put up a phishing site with Silk Road's exact url at a point when the real site was down, I highly doubt it. I have the url memorized and I never use links to get to SR. Any other ideas? This is really annoying.

*edit*
I've never been asked for my pin at login either.

For God's sake, people... look, this is not a normal internet site with a server that you get efficiently routed to like google.com or something.  This is a hidden Tor service.  That means you go through several computers on the way there, each of which have their own standard routing procedure -- fuck, how to put this...

It's like connecting to Google.com, then using THAT connection to connect to Yahoo.com, then using THAT connection to connect to askjeeves.com, then using THAT connection to connect to aol.com, and then linking through all of those encrypted connections to interact with aol.com.  If any of them are down, then the site will appear to be down.

Other people can get to SR (which is aol.com in my example)?  Then the site ain't down.  Your Tor program is just having trouble finding a route to it.  The SR server could be a billion dollar behemoth that could calculate more numbers in a nanosecond than Data from Star Trek -- if one of the links inbetween sucks, the site will appear to be fucking slow as molasses.

Make sense?  As for the "bad login," for some reason, I get it precisely once every single time.  No matter what.  And only once.  That's all I can say about it.

I get login failed every single time. Not the case using a different account.

Do NOT log on at this address as the one asking you for a PIN is the phising web page. You're not the first to have been led astray by wikipedia. You should open Tor (don't use onion.to ), click Private Browsing obviously, and load http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/. Then just bookmark it. If you have logged in in the last hour you'll notice it looks different. It should be in igcognito mode (no pictures, and camel removed). This is because of the image hack DPR just cited. The website should be reset to its original settings before too long.

Why am I the only one to log in first time in about 20 seconds? It's weird. Are you all on bridges or obsproxy? Obsproxy is not even runnable, it about 30-40 times longer than regular Tor. Just use regular Tor.

The problem's been happening ever since they changed something as a fix for... something... I... I can't remember.

... this is why drugs are bad, mmkay kids... /facepalm

... Dude, I seriously can't for the fucking life of me remember what problem they changed this fucking thing to address... wow man.  This post was totally useless, lol... anyway, if you haven't updated to the latest version of the Tor browser bundle (or you use an old version of Tor for some other reason), you should do that.  They implemented a new microcode thingie or something, I don't really know what it is, but it works better.

thanks for all the help, it seems to me that my old account has been compromised by these hackers and im assuming there is nothing i can do about getting it back?  also the last replay says not to use onion? why is this and what should i use thanks
Title: Re: Reason for SR Blackout
Post by: Razorspyne on December 19, 2012, 02:33 pm
lol @ SS. Can really tell who's high and who's not by the strange posts.

Last "replay says not to use onion?" was me lol. Onion.to logs user data, Tor doesn't. That simple. If you are loading Onion.to via clearnet you are not anonymous. If you are loading Onion.to via Tor, there's even less point, as it will be just as slow but still not anonymous as user info is archived. And if you are loading Onion.to via clearnet via wikipedia.....weeeeeeellllllll...................... where do I even start?

What happened to your account has been reported by someone else on SR already, so God knows how many this lowlife has affected. From now on, never drill down from Wikipedia, Hidden Wiki, Onion.net (even on Tor), or clearnet (surface web).
