Title: Bitcoins disappeared from my account
Post by: czmadman on December 14, 2012, 10:30 am
Hi,

I'm bit new here, but i tried to read (search) whole forum to find answer. I haven't.

Here's my question/

Yesterday I created account on SR, send there 0.85 BTC to try it. Today I tried log in and was asked for passphrase and pin because of many unauthorized accesses. So I provided PIN and passphrase.
Then I found what I was looking for a try to buy it. Before I filled out the form "someone" withdrawed my account. Now I have in account history withdrawal with no note (no address) and of course I couldn't complete order.

Is this any kind of issue on SR, or just my stupidity (in which step?)?

I think that I already know the answer but...Is there any way to find what happened with my money? I'm not expecting that I have them back in future. I just want to know how to avoid this in future.

Thanks for your interest.

You have logged in using a phising website not the actual Silk Road site.

There is no way you can get your coins back I'm afraid. Next time be more careful when logging in. SR DOES NOT ask for pin when logging in.

Always check if the link in the address bar is this one: silkroadvb5piz3r.onion

Well that's pretty disturbing.  You're saying there's no recipient listed on the account history page thingie?  Not a bitcoin address, not a Silk Road member name, nothing?  I don't see how that's possible, frankly... I don't know of any way to get coins out of an account without there being a record of it.

If someone used your PIN to make an actual purchase and not a transfer, then it would show up in your orders page.  If there's nothing there, check your past feedback page -- if a purchase was made, either you can edit the feedback left or leave it to begin with.  I don't think it's possible to hide that, so it would at least give you a pretty good idea of who stole your coins.

Honestly I think it's a lot more likely you just missed the receiver though.  Check again.  And go ahead and post whoever got your ~11.00 USD: always good to know if someone's honesty is just a sham, and there's no way somebody stole coins and sent them to a random account that they couldn't get them back out of.  If it's a bitcoin address... well, won't do a lot of good to post it.  Can if you like though.

And I'm curious: where exactly did you get the address for this fake SR that phished you...?

Interesting.  If you look at the source for the phishing site, it's actually much more nicely formatted than the real SR site.  Odd -- personally I would have set it up like a proxy and just replaced all the URLs, then passed all page requests straight through after logging the captured data... but that's not what this guy did.  He's either OCD, is an experienced developer, or used an automated tool to rip & copy the site.

Otherwise, the HTML source wouldn't be so neatly indented.  No, it doesn't really have anything to do with anything... I just find it odd that he's serving up a modified copy of the site HTML instead of doing it dynamically.  What if SR changes?  Doesn't he want to still phish people after that?  :P

I'm very sorry, but it simply is not possible to reverse a bitcoin transaction.  It cannot be done.  In plain terms, to get the coins out of the address that they were sent to, you must own the address.  It's really that simple and final.  Again, I'm sorry.  I hope you didn't lose too much.

Hi,

thanks for answers.

Because I wasn't able to remember link to SR i was used to copy it from Wikipedia. That was my fault.

On wiki there was http://silkroadvlsu5apk.onion/ (for few hours) and now its changed back to http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion

So yes it was phising.
