Title: How to connect to a proxy or vpn through tor?
Post by: AuDoMaN on November 13, 2012, 04:27 am
What is the best way to connect to a proxy or vpn through tor? I need to hide the fact that I'm using tor from bitinstant, and hide my location from the proxy server so I can buy my bitcoins anonymously. I'd rather not use a paid vpn. I'm decent with the terminal and all I really need is to be pointed in the right direction. What software to use, etc.

I don't want to use mt gox or obtain the bitcoins with my ID and then mix them as bitcoinfog is down and I don't trust other mixing services. I have never used a mixing service before.

Can I use a tormail email address for bitinstant since they added the OFAC compliance?

Thank you for any help.

A couple of other points. Don't use a Tormail address and Bitcoin Fog is up for me.
I must have the wrong URL for bitcoinfog. Do you have a recommendation for an alternate email provider?

Thanks.

I don't understand why you're using Tor (a proxy), to a VPN, to a proxy...?  What is it you're trying to accomplish by not letting BitInstant detect that you're using Tor?

They block tor users now.

Use OpenVPN with a VPN provider that supports it. Once you are connected, all of your connections are encrypted and go through the VPN. Once you are connected, just start your TOR browser as usual and you are done. Your ISP will not know that you are using TOR, they will just see a connection to the VPN IP.

To confirm this, you can use Commview or Wireshark to check, you should not see connections to the TOR network, just a connection to the VPN IP.

I don't recommend using  a plain SOCKS 4/5 proxy as it is not encrypted.
