I find this truly disappointing. I mean really truly disappointing. I also find his reaction to the way Jon Stewart came right out and asked him why his administration hasn't curtailed these powers bizarre. His response was (from memory) "actually we have, we've worked to put in place more oversight." Or something. Which is total bullshit. It was kind of a combination redirect + lie answer.I don't know. He seems so intelligent and reasonable... but how can you consider such expansive powers without any oversight reasonable, if you're an intelligent and reasonable person? I don't know man, maybe they stop a terrorist attack every single day because of them, but I don't think that matters. It doesn't justify it.I still can't believe that an American citizen was assassinated after clearance by the president. Sure, he was obviously a terrorist and he obviously didn't want to be an American anymore and he hadn't lived in America for like 10 years or something... he was a mean guy who wanted to hurt us. But he legally was an American citizen. And he was killed without trial, without jury, without due process. I'd cite my reference if I had one, so hopefully I've fallen prey to some misinformation and this is not what happened... but I think it is.My government should not have these powers. End of sentence. Full stop. It fucking scares me to live in America these days, it really does.
