PS. anyone with half an ounce of computer smarts could spend 30 seconds on Google and find out what they need to do to lift supposedly erased data off a formatted drive. I'm sure the cops know exactly how to find what they need from a the formatted drive of a dopey crim who reckons he's covered his tracks.
Hard drives are amazing things. A friend of mine ran a business in a mall that caught fire, and of course his office was burnt out pretty bad. He was still able to retrieve essential data he needed to continue his business from the seriously damaged hard drive retrieved from the puddle of hardened plastic and small bits of metal that was his laptop.
There is software that will make it impossible to retrieve deleted data, but the most effective way to make sure no one finds whatever it is on your hard drive that you want to keep private is to get as heavy a hammer as possible and smash your HD into as many pieces as you can.

The dude spent a reasonable amount of cash to have an amount of narcotics sent to his residence in a quantity that LE would most definitely not consider 'for personal use'. His dear old mother opens the package, despite it being addressed to himself, and threatens to rat her own son out. I mean, the kind of mom who's so straight laced that she'd rat her own son out to the cops for possessing a fat baggie of crack is pretty damn unlikely to even recognise a fat baggie of crack. Here's what you'd say to such a straight laced mom - "FOR FUCK'S SAKE MA you've totally got it all wrong, this is a bag of gourmet Aztec sea salt - cost a fortune it did! Had to get it imported specially from Aztekistan. And why did you open my mail? I'm like 37 for fuck's sake! Why do I still live with you? So yeah, that was all pretty comical, and of course everyone laughed at the stupid prick. But it got even funnier when he started claiming he was going to snitch on all of us and burn SR to the motherfucking ground if we don't start sending bitcoins his way. It's a win-win! Even if the terrified SR users and DPR himself don't start shelling out the big bits to ensure that celebrity attorney Bill Clinton has OP's back, the DA's sure to offer OP a cushy plea bargain in return for installing TOR on his computer, showing him how to use it and giving him SR's URL so that he can bring us all down in an organised crime bust so epic it would make Elliot Ness look like a parking inspector.
