Title: Noob Question- Downloadable purchase & physical addy
Post by: Convalescent on June 08, 2013, 11:36 pm
1. When making a downloadable purchase is it necessary to give correct address information?

2. At the shopping cart checkout your actual addy is given? I thought this was all PGP??

Just trying to do everything without making vendors lives a hassle.

1.  no, if it's a digital item there is NO REASON to include ANY personal information.  not your name, not your address, and not your email address.

2.  if you want to encrypt your address, you need to do it manually when you are placing an order.

The checkout does say to include your address "as it would be on an envelope," but you should ALWAYS encrypt it with PGP in the box provided.

I appreciate it, I've read about 100 pages between SR, #otc-bitcoin yatta yatta and I didn't have that answer bookmarked yet haha

You're the best scout, I'd give you karma if I could figure out how bwaha

But to clarify, that is just what the shopping cart says regardless of the item being purchased ... however, it does NOT mean that you should provide ANY personal information when what you are ordering is a digital item.  There is NO REASON for a vendor to need that information.

Ummm, you may want to rethink that statement.  I have to have an e-mail to send the digital books I sell. Dont care what e-mail but I can not send the book without it.

I have had some new people recently asking me to send it via SR but I can not attach the book via SR and do not mess with download sites. For those that tell me they dont have an e-mail, I send them the link to tor mail.

But I suggest that anyone using SR grab an email box via tor mail or a similar service. It is always good to have an off SR contact method.

Definitely. A good point! I didn't mean to suggest that they should do that for a digital item. :)
