Stop the possibility of FE
Surely there are ways to make this work
Scammers are rife and new users and even sometimes older, more knowledgeable users, get took. Some lose thousands. Yes, FE is not encouraged, in fact the opposite, but we all know it happens and we all watch it happen daily
Why doesnt SR admin employ a system that doesnt allow FE?... scams would be almost eradicated overnight
-
I'm not sure there is any way to prevent people from leaving the escrow system. It would be nice and much better that way, obviously, but no matter how the system functions, people will always find a way around it.
The saddest part to me is that people are FE'ing for these scams simply to get "free shipping" on an order which will never arrive. Finalizing early just to save a few bucks on shipping is such a bad decision.

I have to disagree with you there scout. There are many ways to prevent people from leaving the escrow system... time limits being the major one. Also stricter rules; punishments and possibly instant bans for anyone that asks for or actions any FE
Getting a bit ahead of myself here, but time limits could possibly overridden for people that have received their packages earlier than the time limit states and want to release the funds to the seller. Anyone that does this and hasnt received their package deserves to lose their money IMO
They are just a couple of ideas from the top of my head. I am certain that if this matter was thought out properly, brainstormed and planned, a much better and safer system than the one that is currently in place could easily be created

You're acting like buyers never scam sellers.
I don't see how one could get rid of FE or why that would be necessary. You could always just not FE and use the escrow system for everything, there's no reason somebody has to get rid of the option for you not to use. Also selective scamming would still work fine, sellers build up a good reputation then occasionally don't send out a package, support will probably split it 50/50 unless it was supposed to be tracked.

Not all transactions that are finalized early are done so at the request of the vendor. I've had buyers ask me about it and still do it after I encourage them to stay in escrow. Some buyers just want to clear the transaction for whatever reason. Some wait to finalize until just before it auto finalizes. But most stay in escrow and finalize shortly after they receive their package/test their gear. There just is no perfect system and people who want to scam people will find a way no matter what barriers are put in front of them. I don't understand that mentality, but I know it's out there. I will continue to be an honest vendor who encourages their buyers to stay in escrow and hope that eventually all vendors on here are of the same mindset when it comes to providing service to the buyers. It makes me upset that there have been so many scammers on here. Short of requiring charity transactions (you MUST provide some number of transactions for free), I don't think there is a system that the SR staff can design that will deter 100% of the scamming vendors:(

Do like amazon. I say collect personal information and send all fraudulent claims to a collection agency.
-
I must admit, that I didnt really think this one out and there are a great deal of ponts to think about, before a better transaction service could be created
I do, however, stand by my initial statement, that a better process could be implemented. Figuring it out would be a more difficult process than I originally presumed, but I have no doubt that it would be possible
This topic, though, has sprung a second question in to my mind. If these is such a phrase, it is a questionable question, but still, it is one I would like to ask, and I think it deserves a separate topic:

This is not a perfect way to eradicate all scams on SR this is a moronic ill-thought-out idea that has been rinsed and repeated so many times it's like the old tarts ritualistic vaginal wash. In the sense that she may douche the minge of all the creamy spunk BUT, it's still old and used up anyway!
Do you really think any vendor here is going to let go bulk to a new customer without some guarantee? Nope. Argument killed.
-
Who said anything about bulk going to a new/untrusted/high risk customer?
Point killed

LOL, clearly that's what you were inferring otherwise you would have been more specific. Point remains.

Limieless... great name for a member that obviously cant see anything past his own, limited point of view
I never went into detail about how the system could be improved. I simply said it could be. If questioned on the topic, I intended to suggest stricter vendor regulations. And as already stated, time limits and reprimands for anyone asking for or implementing an early release of funds
Point dead
No system is free of risk, but no system is perfect and always has room for improvement
The SR escrow system is a relatively new one and could easily be improved, given, as already stated, brainstorming and planning
Even though I have offered valid suggestions as to how, and possibly, why, the system could be improved... I doubt that your ego would be willing to accept them... even if your mind would
Point given, I would prefer to discus this matter with you no further, because you are, in fact, limited
-
That's a little too harsh, in my opinion.
Although you're right, the SilkRoad advises buyers to never use the finalize early option.
While finalizing early allows for fraudulent sellers to exist, it also eradicates fraudulent buyers. Similarly, by cutting down on finalizing early, you decrease the number of fraudulent sellers, but you also increase the number of fraudulent buyers.
It's give and take.
I personally prefer escrow for both buying and selling, but I understand both sides.
Hope this helps,
-
There are too many intelligent minds here to not come up with a satisfying solution for both parties..

Why does SR have to protect anyone from being dumb? Why is it *SR's* responsibility? Nanny gov't much?
Next up: enforcing harm reduction and limiting the amount and combination of drugs one can buy per week.
The best way to eliminate scams is for enough people to get burned by them that they stop being burned by them. Notice how no one was able to pull off a Tony76 scale scam again?
The scams are getting smaller and smaller in scale.
For those who still get burned FE'ing... it's tuition. ;)
