the first few series of shameless were a fantastic snapshot of a societal microcosm. the lows of council estate life were buffered by a feeling of comunity and support. the latter series cartoonized the whole orginal feel, while interesting and damn fine TV it still painted an incorrect message; especially as estates moved through the 00's the old feel of community was dying and the one-upmanship & very middle class idelogy of whats 'mine is mine and what ever yours is can go fuck itself right off' evolved.
