Title: Potential Problem With Seller
Post by: bunnyrun123 on May 05, 2013, 01:23 am
I am a new user, but not new to the internet and am by no means a schmuck. I may have a problem with an order but am not sure and need guidance. I do not want to blow up a seller in case I am wrong so I am intentionally being vague here.

I made an $800 purchase, and noticed immediately the item was flagged as shipped. Excellent!

Then all of the DDOS stuff started. Sucks, but my stuff is on the way so I am safe, right??

A week or more goes by, no mail. I message the seller, who sends me a message back right away telling me there was a delay with his mail servers and he didn't get email right away and he needs a few more days to ship and if I can wait he will add 50 (to original 400) more to my order.

I replied that I noticed my item was marked as shipped right away, that I cannot allow the order to auto finalize, and need delivery in my hand or I will give negative feedback. I added he can cancel order if he wants and refund my money.

Now I start thinking that this sounds like a scam. It seems he is trying to get me to let the clock run out so he can get positive feedback and keep my money.... But maybe I am paranoid. So I go look at his feedback and other listings. He has several listings that say he requires FE to give super great pricing. the listings do not say anything about FE for new users or low buyers, its FE for everyone to get the great pricing. This seems odd.

On his feedback, he has plenty of positive, recent feedback but all for low priced items. He doesn't have any positive feedback for any high priced items, and I am again wondering if he is a scam seller.

I have 8 days left on my order, please advise some guidance for a new buyer that has money to spend and genuinely wants to move forward with good sellers.

Thanks in advance.

Who is the vendor?

Stay in escrow.  Autofinalize and resolution both are disabled until the site has been up for 48 hours.

Thank you for the VERY rapid response. While I appreciate you investigating I also hope to get get some info so I can learn whats normal and not normal going forward.

The seller is "AlwaysReliable7"

I assume you can see our messages but here is his last message to me:

My friend! We accepted the order. Unfortunately things were lagged a bit from communication with our mailers because of our servers down on our email, so nothing has been out yet. Here is what i will do for you though.
We can cancel your order right now and you get your funds back or if you give us a couple more days to get everything done w will send you 450 tablets instead of 400. We really apologize and hope to work this out with you. We truly appreciate your business!

Let us know please.
We wish you many great blessings!    2 days    read

As forum moderators, we can't actually see any of your message history - only admin can.  I just asked about the name in case I had heard anything about the specific vendor, but this is the first time I've heard of them.  However, what they're saying is true - the attack on the site as well as the downtime of Tormail recently has probably seriously slowed things up for most vendors who rely on them.

Bottom line - as long as you stay in escrow and do not release the funds until you've received your order, then there's no harm in giving them a few more days.  That is, however, completely up to you.  If you don't want to wait, you can cancel the order and get your funds back.

It's up to you, really, just don't let the order autofinalize on you (when autofinalize is re-enabled) and don't finalize early.  You can either extend the finalization through the resolution center if you want to give them a chance to send you your order, or you can cancel your order altogether.

ok I will need to read up on extending, etc as you mention. I want to give the benefit of the doubt but also do not want to get burned.

I'm not clear on how it was marked as shipped from day 1, but he claims he only just got my email, and will need a few ore days to ship... all seems odd.

Thanks for your guidance, there is 8 days to go so I have time to figure this out.

Thanks again.

Yeah, it does sound a little strange.  I mean, as soon as a vendor marks the order "in transit" or sent, the buyer's address is destroyed.  When the vendor suggested he's ship in a few days, did he also ask for your address?  Because he wouldn't (read: SHOULDN'T) still have your address after marking the initial order in transit.

If you feel like something might be "off" about a deal - you have every right to cancel the order or at the very least stay in escrow.

No, he did not ask for my address again, but maybe he wrote it down....

I do appreciate your acknowledging that there may be a problem... I was born at night, but not LAST night! lol

I will give the guy a little more time and we will see what happens. Can you either tell me how to extend the finalize, and/or point me to instructions for that?

Auto-finalize and the resolution center itself have been stopped until the site has been up for 48 hours. However, normally to request an extension you simply click 'resolution' (when it becomes available) beside the order that you wish to extend and you'll be taken to the resolution center. There will be a number of options, simply select the 'extend' option, type a comment if you so wish and wait for the vendor to either accept or reject your proposed resolution. Most vendors are more than happy to agree to an extension.

Once an order is in the resolution center it will not auto-finalize, but if the buyer and vendor cannot come to an agreement then a Silk Road Administrator will make a final decision based on all the information available to them.

Well, I sent him a message saying that I would gladly give him more time, but if the order gets tot he end of the clock, I would be providing negative feedback.

He then cancelled my order. This guy definitely seems like a scammer to me.... but what do I know....

Thank you all for your help.

It could be that he was in the same boat as me..When I went to confirm orders  (mark in transit) it timed out.....so I didn't ship some orders until I could see that they had been marked in transit.

Legitimate Concern:
Vendor not sure if the order was confirmed -- > buyer could click cancel when SR is down. Buyer gets products seller gets no money

Scam:
Vendor pretends to ship product ----> gets 50% money for free.

Hmm, that is very strange indeed. Perhaps consider reporting the issue to SR Support to prevent others from being put in a similar situation.

Thread locked as resolved.
