I should say that Bitinstant isnt actually ripping people off, so much as deposits are going missing then you have to follow support channels for days or weeks to resolve it. But they are in fact making good on it.I went 2 weeks, then after finding the right thread, I had my deposit in a few days.

Iv never had any issues with Bitinstant. I dont like what iv been hearing , its the only place iv ever used to get my coins, So if i must i will just use Sugar Moma for coins..

I dont have certain banks in my small town oher than our local state type banks, now about hour from me there's BOA and all, but it sucks having your DRivers L suspended, with bitinstant, im 10 min away from buying coins, i always buy 200 at one place make sure that went through then will go to another and do the same, thn soon as i hit sr i buy everything i need, i normally put the amount of money with bout 40 xtra just in case, i never just keep thousands on here for shopping around daily..

I just went today and bought 2 100 $ money paks for a btc vendor, And i was waiting to see at least a week if we were gonna be ok and hold up before i threw 400 on here, Glade i did.. seems like issues ATM, lets hope just some upgrading to hardware and software on the teams end.. We will survive, but we will always have major storms here on SR soo understand that..

avoid Intersango - they refused to pay me or refund me then banned me from their site so I could not follow a claim.  And for nothing except to keep my money....

If you can get an early order in, Blue Sky Traders works well, and up to $8500 per transaction. Only problem there is that they work Tuesday through Friday, from 11:00am until banks close. They also only work when the market is going up. They have been increasing their business, so catching them when they are open almost never works. You have to send them an email requesting an early order. If you know early enough, I would place the order two days in advance, or in the am the day before.

So from what I have heard, it sounds like multiple bitcoin exchanges are having all sorts of problems(attacks, deposit issues and being shut down by their banks), SR is under attack, TOR is under attack(just heard, not confirmed yet)......anything else I'm missing?

Sounds like the counterculture is doing well.  They are paying attention, guys.

Bitfloor is indeed gone.  TOR is not under attack.

TOR is not under attack.

Yes, I've been seeing this a lot and I'm guessing it's a misinterpretation of what DPR said. The DDOS is (possibly) exploiting a vulnerability of Tor (rather than a vulnerability of Silk Road's).  The implications of this are that it is possible the DDOS cannot be stopped without a patch to Tor hidden services code. In other words there would be nothing DPR or other admins could do. I think we all hope this is not the case.  :(

Saying "Tor is under attack" really doesn't make sense at all.

This is true.. and this is my problem with bitinstant.. you have to go to the bitcointalk forum and beg them fuckers to send you your money.  If you fail to beg them for your money, they won't give it to you.  i think they are stealing whatever extra bitcoins they can, maybe before finally closing shop, while seemingly appearing as legit as possible.   thats the most plausible explanation.  opportunist thieves.

So Bit Instant is no good eh?

Bitinstant is decent as long as you only do one transaction per 24 hour period and make sure it is $500 or less.  (If I'm remembering their policy correctly.)  Problems tend to occur when people attempt to use fake info for multiple transactions in one day but forget to use different btc addresses / names / birthdates / so forth.  They've had their problems, but they're not the worst way to get btc.

Alright, check it out SR Fam.  The acquisition of bitcoins has always been a sickening task in my opinion.  Avoiding MP scammers, tedious WU and Moneygram forms, the waiting, the uneasy bank visits, researching SR BC vendors, Ive done it all.  We all have right.  Bitfloor, Bitcopia, Bitinstant, Bitstamp, Blue sky traders, blah blah blah.  Today I jumped out there and tried localbitcoins.com.  I found a vendor who didnt overcharge me and was on the up and up.  Moving forward I have direct access through Bank Deposit.  Dude only charged me 1% and my coins were delivered within a half an hour more or less.  I am very pleased and relieved that   i found this resource and can only hope that my fellow bitcoin brethren here on SR can find someone similar to the connect I met today.  Have a nice day.

I met someone on SR who according to your buyer stats and how long you have been there have how much u have spent u can get iv seen loans up to 500 bucks.. But u after he sees your stats u have to go to his site so he knows who owes what etc etc, and i was thinking it was also being run by DPR also cuse those same initials are on the top of that site. I POSTED it in the official spare coin thread

I think its CLEARNET WARNING ! www.lendmecoin.com << not positive but u can find it by me on the spare coins thread.. I got a 300 dollar loan one time and was only charged 1% a day til i paid it back, i think i ended up owing 325 bucks or something i cant remember, the site was still in Beta when i met the guy putting it together but i clciked something for free on his page so he could see my stats. then he asked how much i wanted. Told him and within 5 min i had it.. most iv seen somne get charged is 2%

Thats what I thought on the last thread I saw about bitcoins/bitinstant being fishy or whatnot. Anway, its on the person buyin the coins if they wanna use real info or falsify. I choose to do both and switch it up, but on certain amounts, or certain times of the week/year, you bet your ass I use my real info, just in case theres any issues because more then likely if you messed up on the transaction and you used fake info, you won't be seeing noda.

That time frame is about average. I've only used them twice so I don't know if that time frame shortens once you've done a few more transactions with them. In my experience, it's not the ideal place to buy coins for SR use. People who are interested in investing and trading won't mind the week wait because they are looking to invest anyway and see where the market goes. Whereas for us, we just want our damn coins to spend it right away on all the shiny new toys on offer on SR :)

I loved Bitfloor... but they're gone. Bitcopia was gone before I could try them. Now I guess it's BlueSkyTraders and the other folks people have mentioned. I just typically buy coins on SR now from vendors like Sugar Mama.

Doesnt SR coin vendors charge a larger fee than say. bitinstat?

They definitely do. Sugar Mama takes 10%; others take a bit less. But it's just a tad more convenient for me to go buy MoneyPaks and processed by a SR vendor and then have the coins transferred straight to me without having to deal with BTC deposits, wallets, etc.

Regarding SugarMama's rates, they range from 12% to 20%. Here's some info from her vendor page:
"The minimum sized Moneypak I can process at this time is $100.
- Bulk customers that average two thousand monthly: 12% on MPs valued $400 and above.
- Moneypak value of $400 and above: 15%
- Moneypak value of $100 - $399: 20%"

And here's a some info from another vendor's page, who charges 5-7%:

★★★ The minimum REloadit pack, Vanilla Reload Pack or NetSpend Reload Pack that will be exchanged is $300.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
RATES
-----------------------------------
There is 7% flat rate fee to exchange your Reloadit cards or NetSpend Reload Pack for Bitcoins unless a different rate is posted above.
There is a reduced 5% fee for customers that spend 3k or more in a month.

Title: Re: where are you getting bitcoins??
Post by: endorfin on May 08, 2013, 03:30 pm
Getting coins is a real pain in the but. BitInstant wants my name, age, and phone number. Local BTC are all strangers and Sugar Mama is on vacation. Besides, SR BTC vendors are way too expensive, and BlueSky is always several days out just to get started. How much more business could DPR realize if it wasn't such a risk and pain in the ass to get coins. I have cash and I spend much more time getting it to SR than I do reading the forum. Surely SR coin vendors could use our SR longevity and purchase stats to adjust their rates more favorably for more senior SR buyers. Blah, blah, blah, ...

DPR, please apply your genius to solving this conundrum!
Title: Re: where are you getting bitcoins??
Post by: BenJesuit on May 08, 2013, 03:41 pm
That would be a pretty big security risk if SR had its own BTC exchange. But it sure would be convenient.

Don't see how it's possible though. The site is too big of a target. Adding a BTC exchange ran by DPR and co, would be an Achilles heel.

I haven't heard collapses name mentioned at all. He is the only one I use for my bitcoin purchases, EVER. I have tried one other guy when collapses wasn't around and he overcharged me big time, but I needed the coins at that point so what are you gonna do..
My point is, COLLAPSES is the way to go. His rates are either great or reasonable, depending on what you're accustomed to, and you can use Western Union or Moneygram, again depending on preference, aaaand the whole transaction takes literally only a couple of hours.
In my opinion, a seriously fantastic vendor for all of your bitcoin needs. Absolutely worth checking out.

BitInstant has always worked for me. I have seen some stories of people who's bitcoin orders got messed up for one reason or another. Usually error on the part of the user. (wrong btc address, email address, etc) though a few have been honest to goodness 'glitches'

Part of me want's to shy away from threads like this. After all, if it's working for me, who should I shout and yell about it? Right?

It's like discovering gold, and wanting others to share in your joy, only to find they have a whole other twisted logic as to how the gold should be used.

Our biggest enemy is human nature.

BitInstant is just fine in America. - (you have many options for locations AA! Can't remember how long it's been since I saw BOA on there, maybe 6 months?)

welp...i'll say this one time  :)

Look at my past posts...

:)

i've said it before (you can read about it)
and i'll say it again...i've read people talkin ..no.... bitchin and cryin about bitinstant...
everytime i read all this whining crying butthurt shit i laugh and decide do do this :
1: create a $500.00 transaction
2: read confirmation in email
3: pay through MG
4: drive home and check SR account....waits....oh boy there are my bitcoins  :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then ...
i do this again:
1: create a $500.00 transaction
2: read confirmation in email
3: pay through MG
4: drive home and check SR account....waits....oh boy there are my bitcoins  :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

so.....in essence....i push $1000.00 through BitInstant with no ID check Everytime...No Problems...

Now i say this because i think some of you are not doing your fucking homework :)

People...please..dont rely on us...do your research...walk through these threads   ..there is a varitable cornucopia of God sent information at your fingertips....if you do not heed my warnings...well...i aint writing yur ass when yur in jail.....period.

Peace,

Pardon my sensible paranoia Mr. Hero member. When I'm asked to give my name, age, and phone number I worry that someone is harvesting bitcoin buyer trends and personal info. And, if I give false info, I stand to lose my money if I need assistance with the transaction and cannot properly ID myself. Either way, I am not asking anyone to do my homework for me. Pardon my sensible paranoia Mr. Hero member. When I'm asked to give my name, age, and phone number I worry that someone is harvesting bitcoin buyer trends and personal info.

But that's even more reason not to give accurate information IMAHO (even though I get where you're coming from with the ID bit).

In fact I believe this is what this forum thread is all about.  Is it not!
Totally understandable :)

ok..there are ways to get fake documents..ie: utility bills..fake id's..ya know....ya can do this with some research and be all set :)

like i said ..i meant no discontent  :)

Is there any reason NOT to use your real name/DOB?

I mean, if the feds had you by the ass... being dishonest from the get-go on some BTC transactions wouldn't necessarily work in your favor.

Especially if they're trying to prove that you're using the coins to do dirt (which, incidentally...).

Unfortunately I'm faced with this dilemma now that all my other backup options have evaporated.

No.
There is Nothing Wrong with buying and using Bitcoins.
There are quite a few websites that use Bitcoins as a payment method that sell "Legal" Stock on
their WebStores.....Also look at the Gambling websites which take and payout in Bitcoins...
They're not illegal to purchase or own.
We all must Formulate a plan in case something goes down where we're questioned...Before We hit the Silk Road
and make orders....We should really Educate Ourselves on PGP and the finer points of Anonymity.

As long as we can prove how we use these Bitcoins in a Legal way...i see no harm in using Our Real Names
and or DOB's .
Seriously..now this is just my opinion  :)
Plausible Deniability is Always on my mind  ;)

Hope this has helped someone  :)

Bitinstant is run by a bunch of slackers. I don't know why you spend so much time defending them and promoting their business (ChemCat).

We can go back and forth all day about how Charlie selectively scams and constantly fumbles customer service... but I've only come here to warn new customers.

 BITINSTANT - ONLY AS A LAST RESORT!!! (SCAM ALERT. EXCESSIVE DELAYS. POOR SUPPORT. ETC)

As far as bitcoin traders on SR, everybody seems to go to Sugar Mama, but I bought from JumboMonkeyBiscuit, who charges a little bit less (15% vs SM's 20%). He was super helpful and I got my coins in like 5 minutes just when he was about to turn in for the night. And he has 100% positive feedback, so this is definitely a good option, especially since Sugar Mama is on vacation. I really think these BTC vendors charge way too much, but these are desperate times and there are few other options now.

I got my last coins from SR vendor CoinXchange. 8% fee for a NetSpend Reload pack that I picked up at Walgreens, had the coins in my acct in a few hours. I have to give CoinXchange a a big thumbs up!

Yes. I would not advise using false names and details to police (as a habit). Pick your moments when it comes to providing a false name. I'm not a huge fan of how they run Mt Gox. God knows why, but they seem to think they are entitled to information about you which is actually correct. ::)

CampBX
If you have Dwolla account and money in there, it takes less than 6 hours to show up in CampBX as cash and costs 25 cents! Then you buy from CampBX exchange and send to whatever wallet you want. Prices are typically comparable to Mtgox +/- 3% (They charge 0.55% transaction fee). Tumble them a few times or move b/w wallets then send to SR for anonymity. I keep $ in my Dwolla and can purchase BTC, wash, and send to SR w/in 1 hour usually.

Does anyone know any legit exchangers, besides Sugarmama since she is now on vacation? Thanks.

Any dwolla linked coin exchange is about to have a hard time getting their money. The U - S  Gov is cracking down on the cash flow to and from these exchanges that operate in U - S- D. Just an FYI...... We do charge a fee for our service but we are legit and to be legit it costs us money to operate.

I used CoinXchange and I was extremely satisfied. No need to wash coin or use temporary wallets. Buying a REloadit Pack was super quick, easy and anonymous.

I second that. I hope he stays straight. I'm paranoid these days about even good, established vendors doing a runner before cashing out.

Coinbase.com

Now with them u have to have a verified bank account but as long as ur not doing anything illegal with the coins u will be ok ;)

I send my coins to multiple wallets then to SR

Can't I just export them all to a bitinstant address, then send them to the bitcoin laundry (aka bitcoinfog) then to SR? Wouldn't that render them untraceable even if I did use my bank account to buy legal coins?

I was using Bitfloor for a while, and was really pleased with their services.  Sad to see them go.  Alas, I have returned to the MP method.

Yeah Coinbase seems to work fine as long as you shuffle the coins around after you buy them and you don't mind waiting 7 DAYS to get your coins everytime you buy them  :(
