Title: SCAM WARNING: User "TwoMuch" is actively scamming a lot of people.
Post by: Antimatter on April 16, 2013, 08:39 pm
Enough said. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HIM! He offers bitcoins for MoneyPaks but then cancels the order immediately after withdrawing the funds.

I gained a lot of trust for this method because SugarMama always came through and was reliable, but this time I didn't want to wait a few days and TwoMuch's quickness in replying tricked me. I just lost a bunch of money and am furious. It hurts so much when you lose this much.

Yep, there's been a few threads about this guy already. Moneypaks are scams waiting to happen. Make sure you check the forums before you decide to do business with a new vendor.

I had the same thing happen to me back in December from a vendor named Pills4Less.  He got me for $500 and I found out through the forums that he got like 3 other people for about $2000 total.  Now, I only use Sugar Mama.  I think the longest she has taken is about 2.5 days.  The last transaction I did with her was about 24 hours.  It's better to wait a day or two and use someone reputable than it is to get scammed.  The was one other guy that I used a long time ago that was also very good, DrGonzo, but I don't know if he is still in business.

This must be about the 20th time I have said it - moneypak for bitcoin shouldn't be allowed at all. In addition, anyone that does moneypak for bitcoin and gets ripped off has no basis for complaint. As othedamnthing says, "moneypaks are scams waiting to happen".

Moneypak for bitcoin shouldn't be allowed at all?  I have used Sugar Mama several times for buying bitcoins with a moneypak and have never had an issue.  I thought it was a pretty easy process, pretty quick, and also convenient.  I think the problem is not the Moneypak but vendors which aren't reputable.  As far as getting ripped off and having no basis for complaint, well that is true.  But when you are dealing with black market shit what do you expect?  Every once in a while you're going to get fucked.

Nanpa,

You think we don't the risk when we jump into it? Of course I am aware of the risks and how easy it is to get ripped off, and I am not complaining about the nature of the system. I simply wanted to warn others so they don't get scammed. If anything, you can argue I deserved this for not using SugarMama.

Exactly, you feel bad enough about getting scammed then you come on here to warn other people and end up getting lectured.  I think everyone pretty much knows that there is always a possibility of getting screwed no matter which method you use.  But to suggest that Moneypak's should be banned for bitcoin transactions sounds a lot like the argument for gun control.

Hey Antimatter, I also wanted to add one more tidbit of advice for you which you may want to think about.  When deciding whether or not to use a new vendor, the first thing I always do now is come over to the forums and look to see if the vendor has any feedback over here.  I also go through their feedback on their SR vendor page and look at the quality of the feedback that they have.  Most of the feedback is very succinct, but there are usually a fair number of people that go out of their way to leave a nice long review.  If you spot someone that you think may be suspicious and all of their feedback consists of "Great job" or "good" or "A+" or something which seems to be very minimal, then there is a possibility that they have faked the feedback by setting up $0.00 dollar transactions (like bitcoin transactions) and leaving themselves 5/5 feedback just to pump up their stats so that they can eventually run a larger scam.  Obviously this is not a fool proof method by any means but I figured I would throw it out there as one more thing for you to think about when evaluating a vendor.  When I was brand new to SR I figured that a 100 feedback score automatically meant that they were top notch.  I am not sure but maybe the SR management has put some more sophisticated rules in place in the software so that it helps prevent people from faking feedback in that way.  Take care bud.  RJ.

We don't even have these things in Canada or atleast I've never seen them. Is it like a prepaid visa or something?

The concept is similar.  Check out their website which I pasted below.  You can buy them here in the US at Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc.  If you go to that link that I pasted below you will see what the card actually looks like as shown in step 2.  Basically they have these cards hanging on the same shelf as the pre-paid Visa's and whatnot.  You take it up to the register along with your cash and tell them how much you want to load on to it.  The card itself costs $4.95 so if you want to load like $500 onto the card then your total will be $504.95, there is no tax added on.  Then, you go on SR and place a bitcoin order with a vendor that accepts Moneypaks.  I use Sugar Mama.  She is very popular and has great feedback.  You scratch off the back of the Moneypak card to reveal the account number.  You send that account number to the bitcoin vendor along with the amount that is loaded onto the card and the general location that the card was purchased.  The bitcoin vendor will cash out the value on the Moneypak card, deduct a fee for themselves (generally 10% to 20% depending on the amount), and then send you the remaining amount in BTC directly into your SR account.  I used to use the Western Union method and found that these Moneypaks are WAY more convenient.  Sorry if this is too much information.

I am only suggesting that moneypak for bitcoin be banned on SR, not anywhere else. The reason for this is that moneypak for bitcoin is a locus of scamming here, and is not a transaction protected by SR staff.

I am not out to lecture people, but the truth is that since I have been here, people have been coming to the forums asking for MP for BTC. A couple of them I even warned against it before they made the transaction. Two days later they were crying that they had been ripped off. I am vocal so that people do not get ripped off, and there are better ways to acquire BTC than moneypak to bitcoin.

I still don't quite understand the logic unless you are saying to ban ALL bitcoin sales on SR altogether and force everyone to use a legitimate exchange like Mtgox to acquire coins.  If that is what you are saying, then ok, that makes some sense.  But if you are going to continue to allow bitcoin sales on SR then the fact of the matter remains - these transactions have a high possibility of being scammed, regardless of payment method, because there is no escrow.  You can just as easily be scammed on a SR bitcoin transaction whether you send the money via via Western Union, Moneypak, Reloadit or any other method.

The vendor has been banned.
