Title: Can't post
Post by: ilovelucyshow on April 09, 2013, 11:33 pm
Hello,

I was able to create a new topic here, in this forum. Other than that, I can't seem to post anywhere else, or reply or quote reply to any threads. I'm not sure what the problem is. It's like my post buttons aren't appearing.

I have another account that I normally use to post with. I've successfully posted with that account in the past, but it's not working now either. I feel like this is a dumb question, but please help. I'd like to post a couple of vendor reviews,

Please refer to the FAQ sticky at the top of this board  ;)

Ah yes, Thanks the referring me to the sticky. Clearly I must be a newbie since I needed such a referral. I assume the part in question is:

All forum accounts need to have made at least 50 posts to be able to post in other areas of the forums now. This rule was introduced to combat the spammers and encourage newbies to invest some time in getting to grips with all things SR before posting and creating threads on topics all ready well covered in existing threads.

I've been using SR for more than 6 months. My buyer specs are stellar. I've learned a lot since I've been here, and have already posted several valuable comments in vendors forums (under a different forum name). But even from that account I'm now limited to the newbies forum until I've posted 50 TIMES!? This is done to eliminate spam and prove I'm somehow "worthy" to post in the big boy forums.

Frankly, I can't see how an additional 48 post in the newbie forums by me is going to help anyone at all. I'm a lurker my nature - I don't have 50 posts on some tech sites I've been a member of for years.

Whatever... I guess I've got quite a few useless newbies posts to make.

I'm glad this thread was a help to you! I guess you missed it in the newbie FAQ just like I did.

I'd hate to think how many useless threads we would have if people could post all willy nilly!

Yeah I agree, I think 50 posts is a bit exaggerated. Now we have to post bullshit things, like this post. In order to get enough to post useful things ;).

Me too am a reader before I post. I just read along till I think I have something useful to say.

Well, hoping on doing some business soon. Anybody interested in the best MDMA from The Netherlands? ;)

You could use the time it takes to reach 50 posts researching the forums so by the time you hit your 50 you won't create duplicate threads or ask questions that have been asked a thousand times before. Then again you can race to 50 posting spam and arrive in the main forums still a newbie and do precisely what is said in the first two lines of this post.

I resent your implication that I'm a SR newbie, just because I haven't felt the need to do 50 useless posts. In fact, I've been using SR quite successfully for some time, and I have the user stats to back that up. I DID go through a newbie learning curve, and made several posts under a different user ID. And yes, some of them were newbie questions. At that time, new users weren't limited to the areas they could post. Which explains my confusion at suddenly NOT being able to post after previously having done so.

My sorry if my failure to go back and RE-Read the FAQ in hoping of finding an answer to what I felt was an obscure problem upset you.

While we are on the subject, the reasons I posed my question under a NEW account name are twofold:

1. As already stated I was confused at my sudden inability to post on the forums, when I had posted successfully before (my post count was around 15 at the time). I started to wonder if my account itself was hosed up, so I created this dummy account to eliminate the possibility that specific account had an issue.

2. I had long known that one's SR user ID should NEVER be at all associated with any of ones accounts on the real world. I mother words, a Google search shouldn't be able to turn up an association with ones SR user ID and that same user ID in the real world. After some consideration, I decided that this security precaution should also apply to my account on this fine forum. Therefore, I decided to abandon the forum account that share's my SR user name. It'l less convenient, since it's harder for seller to know when I've review them. But I felt compelled to take the security measure.

In short, you have no idea whatsoever of my actual skill level, and it's naive at best to equate a low forum post count with incompetency at using SR.

My post count has absolutely NOTHING to do with my competence to post on such difficult and advanced forum topics such as "FUCK BITINSTANT!", "setting up a usb stick", or "Is visiting onion sites anonymous?"

Oh yeah, with crazy complex discussions going on over there, I'd better hide my head hear a good while longer.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but more bluntly: If you need 50 newbie posts to learn how to use Silk Road, you are too fucking stupid to be here, and you're gonna get busted!

That's enough.  The policy is what it is and it applies to everyone.  It was not implemented to make newbies read more - it was implemented to give us a slight advantage over the bitcoin spammers.  Feel free to spam to 50 in the newbie subforum to get out of it.  In the meantime, your original problem was addressed, so I'm locking this thread now.  This forum is for support requests and threads are locked as they are addressed.
