Scammers will now not be able to make it more then 10 minutes after they commence their shameful shenanigans.
How is that so?
Very simple.
The following came to me in a dream/a little birdie told me/ :
DPR and his team have editted the code and tweaked the system over the last few hours so that whenever a scam is reported, the bitcoin address that money is to be sent to (scammers address), is put into a field known as "Invalid Address". So when the innocent scammee puts in the scammers wallet address and tries to sent them money, they get a "INVALID ADDRESS" in red font (the same if one was too put a few random characters in the wallet address and try to send). Very clever, very efficient, and elegant. Perfect solution. Surprised they didn't think of this before. Now scammers are fucked.
Me and my team might or might not have a friend inside the core technical committee here, we might or might not be able to see things others can't see, or we might or might not just be hallucinating and have imagined this.
I think this is a HUGE plus for SR. This is a good thing that will keep us all safer from these shithead scammerz.
I hope I didn't reveal too much information. Knowing the eager-beaver censorers around here wouldn't be surprised if this thread gets deleted.. but that'd make no sense. This is GREAT news and we should all breathe a sigh of relief.
*I am 26 years in IT Security* My "birdies" and/or "dreams" and/or "hallucinations" are NEVER wrong.

Um ... okay. How can you claim to have a friend on the "inside" and then claim we are "eager-beaver censorers" ? You realize that samesamebutdifferent and I are operating according to instructions from DPR and do not delete posts unless they are scams, bitcoin spam, or endanger someone, right? We don't censor anyone. :-\
If your post is true, that's awesome that SR implemented a new system to help prevent scams, but I'm pretty sure all of SR staff, support, moderators, and most of the community are all on the same "side" here.

Well I know.. I didn't mean to sound like a brat. I was saying I hope it doesn't seem that I'm divulging too much operational details on a forum and that it might get deleted. Point was that this is an AWESOME implementation and (I made sure not to talk about other new security measures that are being implemented) the masses should realize that their security is being safe guarded.
Scammers - y'all are fucked now.
Sorry didnt mean to sound brash.. I'm an InfoTech Security specialist.. social skills are not my strong suit :-*

Thanks for clarifying - I get what you're saying. Been a rough day around these parts!
Anyway, yes, that is an awesome implementation ... maybe even SUPER awesome! Thanks for letting us know those changes are being made. One thing I've always trusted in is the knowledge that DPR and inigo believe in this community they've created and will do all they can to protect it.
+1 :)

It still relies on people realising it is a scam and reporting it. The problem with the one the other day was that too many people believed it and put money in straight away. Apart from that and if what you say is true, it's an elegant solution. Nice one :)

woop wooop thats great because lets be honest this SR is great and to be its core is built on trust

I have run into a big problem with the new system for preventing scams. I have run my little uninformed and disconnected from the powers that be - test. And the system is preventing my legitimate activities in one regard.
However, having said that I have found a simple work-around that scammers will not be able to use without detection after a little bit of digital investigation.
So although OP may have been the one who came up with the plan, and it may indeed help, it ain't what's being advertised.
Nuff said.

Huh?

What I have to add is, there is a scam buyer running around by the name of knightsoftheroundtable and other variations on the name, check the newb and rumor mill for my thread on him!

HUH?

I have to laugh, I think someone came past here after that first post of mine and gave everyone -karma. Someone with a highish post count obviously isn't happy.
-
Me too abby. Don't worry about it too much. Happens for no reason sometimes :)
-
Sounds like something that would only apply to a very specific sort of scam. Who in their right mind is sending BTC to an addy versus sticking with the escrow system?

Here you go +1

thanks, I feel extremely well balanced now :)
I am going to take that first -ve karma as a badge of pride though. I rather like the thought of upsetting scammers :)
-
sounds like a great idea but i dont believe jack in forums unless from the horses mouth... no such post about it by DPR.
-
scammers are parasites, fuck em
-
It's sad that people out there want to steal from other members but it's good to know the people in charge have already slammed the door shut on these disgusting attempts to rip people off. Props to the SR staff for keeping their finger on the pulse.

I have had my fill of scams today. If it feels wrong, it probably IS wrong. Thanks for letting us know about new security measures.
