Title: Cancel order does not refund all bitcoins
Post by: candypeel on March 26, 2013, 02:07 pm
Hi, I'm a bit concerned (no pun intended)  about losing bitcoins. I had placed three orders with a seller that has gone AWOL and thought that I should cancel my orders with him. I have noticed that the amount returned isn't the same as the total ordered. I searched the forums and cannot find where it says that you lose BTC if you cancel an order.

Here are the transactions from my account history:

refund    transaction #73c28c8b20    ฿0.57    ฿4.61    March 22, 2013, 6:35 pm UTC
refund    transaction #b109322ad4    ฿0.38    ฿4.04    March 22, 2013, 6:35 pm UTC
refund    transaction #b23c2e35ab    ฿0.21    ฿3.66    March 22, 2013, 6:11 pm UTC
purchase    transaction #b109322ad4    ฿-0.52    ฿3.45    March 19, 2013, 10:41 pm UTC
purchase    transaction #b23c2e35ab    ฿-0.30    ฿3.97    March 19, 2013, 10:41 pm UTC
purchase    transaction #73c28c8b20    ฿-0.78    ฿4.27    March 19, 2013, 10:41 pm UTC

The total for the orders = 1.6BTC and the total refund amount = 1.16BTC,
I'm missing 0.44BTC :(

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

CandyPeel

Likely what happened is the vendor is hedging funds, bitcoin increased in value, so you recieved less bitcoin because of the hedging.
If bitcoin had gone down in value, you would have received more

Thanks Avon, well that's a shame that it's the dollar value that's escrowed, You win some you lose some...

If you don't like escrow hedging, then you can probably find a vendor selling a similar item who doesn't use escrow hedging.

I might be confused but basically the seller asked for X amount BTC rather than a traditional currency like as USD or Euro, then the BTC value had increased? Because it looks like he was returned more BTC than he had spent. And he's concerned? lol
